Guest Panel-Week 1 Games
Games for this Week: 1. Navy vs. Ohio State 2. Oregon vs. Boise State (Thursday) 3. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech 4. Georgia vs. Oklahoma St. 5. Cincinnati vs. Rutgers (Labor Day) And the oddball game this week is: 6. Prairie View A&M vs. Texas South
1. Navy vs. Ohio State W-OSU: There is going to be dead seamen all over the field.
2. Oregon vs. Boise State (Thursday) W-Boise State: Tough matchup to predict this early in the season.
3. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech W-Alabama: These schools are making a buckeye sandwich in the preseason poll. Alabama at #5, OSU #6, and VT at #7. Voting strictly with the pollsters on this one.
4. Georgia vs. Oklahoma St. W-Oklahoma St:
5. Cincinnati vs. Rutgers (Labor Day) W-Cincinnati: Will Cincy make it into the top 25 this year? I think so.
And the oddball game this week is: 6. Prairie View A&M vs. Texas South W-Prairie View A&M: With my abundant knowledge of Prairie View A&M I know they will win. There are many greats to come from the ole PV A&M*: Joe Montana*, Bo Jackson*, Bruce Smith*, and even Michael Vick*. (*-Yellow #5 makes no claims or guarantees about the accuracy of this statement.)
1. Navy vs. Ohio State - Ohio State. OSU should do well against the Midshipmen, which should boost their confidence for USC. ((crossing fingers for Joe's sake))
2. Oregon vs. Boise State (Thursday) - Boise State. I ain't super comfortable w/ this pick, but I think Boise State has some good ol' home team advantage. Plus, you should never underestimate the power of the blue field.
3. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech - Alabama. Virginia Tech never seems to do as well as projected. However, they do tend to win when I pick against them.
4. Georgia vs. Oklahoma St. - Georgia. T. Boone Pickens should stick to what he knows best like wind farms (oops, maybe not, perhaps natural gas instead?), and political activism (I forgot he gave that up too after he supported the Swift Boat Veterans for Lies)...so maybe he should just stick to oil?
5. Cincinnati vs. Rutgers (Labor Day) - Cincinnati. Hopefully Cincinnati will have another good year.
And the oddball game this week:
6. Prairie View A&M vs. Texas South - Prairie View A&M. I ain't ever heard of no Prairie View A&M, so they are the obvious pick.
1) In the navy...they can get beat in the horseshoe....in the navy....they'll lose by 22. 2) Not sure about the smurf turf or Boise St. Oregon wins. 3) Nothing good comes from the ACC unless its basketball. Alabama wins. 4) I think Georgia lost too many players from last year. Oklahoma St wins. 5) The Bearcats will win this one. If it was Rutgers vs the Cincinnati Bengals, then we'd have some discussion. 6) Was Texas South the team from the movie "Necessary Roughness" with Kathy Ireland as the kicker? Go Armadillos!
BIG DOG'S Winners for Week ONE: 1. Navy vs. Ohio State OSU honors those prot4ecting our country, then kicks them up and down the field! 2. Oregon vs. Boise State (Thursday) Boise State prevails, the curse of the blue field. 3. Alabama vs. Virginia Tech A close game, but Alabama will win a squeaker. 4. Georgia vs. Oklahoma St. Georgia will win but should prepare well, the cowboys won't slouch. 5. Cincinnati vs. Rutgers (Labor Day) Rutgers with a minor upset of the Bearcats And the oddball game this week is: 6. Prairie View A&M vs. Texas South PVAM will win, after all Eric Dickerson is presenting the game ball.
NAVY vs. OSU – Seems like this day would never come…longest economically depressed off-season EVER! Not so sure the Midshipmen will feel as enthusiastic after the tail thrashing they’ll receive this Saturday as they’ll find themselves underwater quickly. The game should be close around kick-off and then deteriorate rapidly. The Bucks might take the field looking towards their week two match-up, but I’ll still take the over on a 23 point spread. OSU 39 NAVY 6
Oregon vs. Boise St – Yes, the game’s on the Blue turf where the Bronc’s are virtually perfect. Yes, Oregon got a whuppin in Eugene last season. Yes, the Ducks have a new O-Line, but their option offense along with a very strong returning running game will test the fresh LB core of Boise St. On the other side Boise has a fairly new O-Line and receiving corps and the loss of Ian Johnson at RB (NFL) will make them almost lean entirely on their redshirt freshman last year QB Kellen Moore to make plays. Don’t be surprised if the Ducks pull this one off! Oregon 28 Boise St. 24
Alabama vs. VTech – Marcus Vick gets 20 days in jail for DUI, 2 Hookie students get shot off campus, Alabama players going on free fishing trips, Brandon Deaderick getting shot in a robbery attempt. All this and the game hasn’t even started…could be one long Saturday in the Georgia Dome. Distractions aside, two of the best from the ACC and SEC will make this the game to watch this weekend. Forgoing all analysis I’ll just pick the stronger conference here. Alabama 21 VTech 16 The real question is this…what’s the over/under on lifetime days of incarceration for the Vick brothers???
Georgia vs. Okla State – It’s a good thing for Georgia that Big 12 schools can’t play defense since Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno have moved on to the NFL. Add that to a 15 game non-conference winning streak for Oklahoma State at Boone Pickens stadium and Georgia appears rather under-doggish. Going up against arguably three of the best offensive players in the college game in Dez Bryant, Zac Robinson, and Kendall Hunter, the Bulldog D will have their hands full. Oklahoma State 42 Georgia 13
Cincy vs. Rutgers – Six teams in the Big Easy (a total of ZERO Big East teams are in the top 25), have a shot at getting the automatic BCS bid and these are two of them. I have an idea… force leagues to be relegated in/out of the BCS each year based on the final rankings the previous season, thus bumping these jokers out and perhaps allow WAC or MAC champion mean something every once in a while besides a trophy, a scrapbook full of obscure memories, and mom telling you how special you are. I’d like Cincy to win this one, and so, by administering the somewhat transitive Law of OSU Post-Season Letdowns….Rutgers shall prevail. Rutgers 30 Cincy 29
Prairie View A&M vs. Texas South – After two minutes of research (one of which was spent watching a you-tube video of a guy on a waterslide launching himself over a field and into a kiddy-pool, all without a net) I discovered the mascot name of Prairie View is not the Laura Ingalls Wilders. Alas…Wikipedia tells me the Panthers lost 80 consecutive games mostly in the 90’s…not a proud era for the purple and gold. Never-the-less they should have no problem with the Tigers even without home field advantage. Prairie View A&M 33 Texas South 7
Buckeye Cock is back and is ready to perform is signature move: The Cock Drop. It's going to have to wait until next week when a special someone comes to town. I miss you Pete Carroll. Welcome back everybody! Here are my pics:
1. Ohio State - Ah yes, the time has come again. I hear we have a good D-line and that Pryor is going to have to run away from defenders a lot. This will be a get all the rust out game. Look for Pryor to get sacked and the Buckeyes to win by 21.
2. Boise State - Considering this is the all tough game that Boise has on there schedule, they should be prepared. They don't really lose on the blue turf anyways.
3. Alabama - Wow! Good teams are actually playing each other during the non-conference. Kudos!! The crimson tide win a close one.
4. OK State - Sorry, Bulldogs. It seems as if you'll have to wait another year. Dez Bryant will be the number one wide receiver drafted next year. That means he's pretty good.
5. Cincy - The defending Big East Champs, yeah, I know, will continue their run through the Big East.
6. Texas South - I don't like these oddball games. You should have put Miami/Florida State on here. :-)
Ohio State def. Navy: I was expecting this game to be the game that I was going to be receiving as an Alumni Association game. It would have been a great weekend...a nice long holiday weekend in Columbus, Big Dan/Greg's graduation party, some Donato's pizza, Graeter's ice cream, Buckeye Donuts, a Willie Phoenix show...and then Archie Griffin rains on my parade and TOTALLY shuts me out of any game tickets at all this season. My bitterness over this result will be running theme for my game commentary throughout the season. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer, but Archie, you done this boy wrong.
Oregon def. Boise State: Yes, the game is on the Smurf Turf where BSU has won 49 straight games, and they're the sexy pick to be the BCS buster this season, but the Ducks are out for blood and revenge. It'll be a close, fun, and entertaining game. This game gets my "A+" grade for the week (another running theme for this season; it may not necessarily be the "highest" profile game each week, but the game the Professor personally thinks will be the most entertaining/exciting, and potentially have the biggest impact on the rankings each week).
Virginia Tech def. Alabama: You know I can't go against my Hokies, even if they lost their starting RB for the season in preseason camp. This game gets my "A" grade for the week.
Oklahoma State def. Georgia: I'm officially jumping on the Oklahoma State bandwagon (what can I say, Pickens bribed me with a fresh 100 spot). Robinson, Bryant, and Hunter are all future NFL 1st round draft picks. I don't think anyone (including Buckeye Cock) can argue with that!
Rutgers def. Cincinnati: The immense home field advantage of playing at the legendary Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway pulls the Scarlet Knights through. And the oddball game this week is:
Prairie View A&M def. Texas Southern: It's Texas SouthERN Joey Neff! Come on, take some pride in your oddball games! But, once again, I'm predicting the oddball games will be my downfall this season. But, in my brief research, I discovered that Prairie View actually had a REALLY good record last season. Granted, they played some schools I've never even heard of ("Texas College"?!?! Sounds made up to me. Kind of like "Duke University"), but, 9-1 is nothing to sneeze at, no matter who you play.
1. Ohio State over Navy - no, i will not boo when Navy takes the field (as the last 50 chain letter/spam emails i have gotten this week explicitly told me not to)... not because it would be unpatriotic, but because they will not be able to hear me from my living room couch! i have nothing against the armed forces, and i would not boo a soldier walking down the street, but you can boo the other football team all you want! might not be the nicest thing to do, but this isn't fairy-ball (or any other little-league-everyone-wins type of game), it's football (as george carlin can explain more).
2. Boise State over Oregon - night game at boise state, rootin for home crowd!
3. Alabama over Virginia Tech - i think Alabama will have a bit more depth and will welcome a return to the georgia dome.
4. Georgia over Oklahoma St. - this game will be a lemon for ok st (no pun intended!)
5. Cincinnati over Rutgers
6. Prairie View A&M over Texas South - i'm hoping prairie view has nothing to do with prairie doggin, cause just thinking of that makes me wanna barf!
1. Ohio State over Navy - This could be a close game. Navy does the triple option quite well, and Ohio State isn't used to seeing it and may be looking ahead to USC next week.
2. Boise State over Oregon - A couple years ago, Oregon State made this trip, and I said that I didn't expect they'd be making it again after losing on the blue turf. Now the Ducks think they're going to give it a go, but the Broncos will win in their only chance to make a national statement.
3. Virginia Tech over Alabama - I love that VT is making the same effort that Ohio State is to consistently schedule a big matchup each season. Other teams are taking the hint, too. This should be a good game to watch.
4. Oklahoma State over Georgia - Georgia is rebuilding, and OK State is trying to put itself on the map (see Boise State above).
5. Rutgers over Cincinnati - Ouch, tough draw for the Bearcats to start the season in New Jersey. They may win the conference again, but they're starting out in the hole.
6. Texas Southern over Prairie View A&M - Everybody knows that tigers are better than panthers.
1. Navy vs. Ohio State
ReplyDeleteW-OSU: There is going to be dead seamen all over the field.
2. Oregon vs. Boise State (Thursday)
W-Boise State: Tough matchup to predict this early in the season.

Boise State

Prarie
Batman is going for 3 consecutive years of picking the most number of correct games.
Moderator Neff was very clear that I could not say that Batman is going for the "3-peat" because Hudy won last season's regular season.
But Batman does have 2 championship t-shirts, so go figure.
Old Bag of Man proclaims the following:
