Games for this week:
1. Ohio State vs. Purdue
2. USC vs. Notre Dame
3. Oklahoma vs. Texas
4. Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech
5. Cincinnati vs. South Florida (Thursday)
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Florida Atl. vs. North Texas
1. Ohio State vs. Purdue
ReplyDeleteW-OSU: Thank goodness for our defense and special teams last week against Wisconsin. The coaching staff needs to get a LOT more flare in the offense. Playing conservative Tressel football does not prepare the Buckeyes for big time competition. We will continue to lose big games unless this changes.
2. USC vs. Notre Dame
W-USC: ND edged into the AP top 25 this week but it won't be enough.
3. Oklahoma vs. Texas
W-Texas: Oklahoma is the only 2 loss team in the top 25. They definitely won't be in the top 25 with 3 losses.
4. Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech
W-Virginia Tech: Should be a good game.
5. Cincinnati vs. South Florida
W-South Florida: Cincinnati can't hang in the top 10 for long.
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Florida Atl. vs. North Texas
W-North Texas:
Old Bag of Man Continuing His Climb
ReplyDelete1) Purdue? Purdon't. OSU's offense may be quiet but they should find their way against Purdue. OSU wins.
2) This is one of those games where I hate picking a winner because I hate both schools. Notre Dame will lose and somehow Charlie Weis will still have a job. USC wins.
3) Bring your guns it's a Red River Shootout. Bang Bang. Texas wins and Oklahoma will still be ranked.
4) Nerdy tech games. Virginia Tech wins.
5) Welcome to College Football Big East. Don't worry b-ball starts soon. Cincinnati wins.
6) North Texas wins.

OSU boils Purdue
ReplyDeleteJust about the only thing going for the Boilermakers is their passing game which racks up over 250 yards per game which combines with the 140+ they average on the ground. Something tells me these numbers will be a bit lower when put up against the Buckeye D. Probably the most un-interesting series of games on the OSU card to follow with Minnesota and New Mexico State. Nothing to gain in the weeks to come…
USC crucifies Notre Dame
Not that it matters with this completely one-sided match-up but I’d just as soon pick my high school powder puff team than put money on the Golden Domers. What remnants of a Casey Clausen Heisman candidacy evaporate quicker than a pile of flap-jacks on Charlie Weis’s breakfast table.
Texas outguns Oklahoma
The Sooners have lost in tough road environments with not much on the line. They’ll come looking for some season salvaging pride points, but will find a Longhorn team that’s considerably better than BYU and The U. Watch that 4 point spread increase in the days to come…
Virginia Tech outsmarts Georgia Tech
Shouldn’t there be some sort of pyrotechnic death battle robot competition in the stadium parking lot between the nerds from both schools to get this thing rolling. It’d have my vote!!! Somebody gots to beat GT at home this season…may as well be them Hokies!!
Cincinnati scratches South Florida
Are (the) Bearcats for real? According to the internet, (the world’s most accurate source of information) the Binturong (commonly known as a bearcat) is a civet-like animal native to the forests of Southeast Asia. Assuming Tampa Bay is a similar bio-zone then Cincinnati should feel right at home as they drive on to a Big East championship and a second straight BCS berth.
North Texas sneaks past Florida Atlantic
The only thing intriguing about this match-up is that it will affect the guest panel rankings. Both teams seem to have had some bad breaks both losing last week by a combined 6 points. All things being equal…take the home team.

Buckeye Cock has discovered the guest panel secret relationship. I'm not referring to the one including Joe, but a different one. Talk about a cock drop. I love this time of year:
ReplyDelete1. Ohio State - So, after keeping score last week, I have determined that the defense is a lot better than the offense. Is anyone really that sold on Pryor? My faith is wavering. I wonder if we can do better.
2. USC - ND complained about how they weren't in the polls and where did it land them--#25. Unfortunately, the pollsters were a week too early because they will probably lose.
3. Texas - The Big 12 is down this year. I don't think Bradford is as good as last week showed. Then again, I don't think Texas is that good either after being down at the half to Colorado.
4. Va Tech - Harry Chance's Hokey Pokeys are at it again. They win a close one on the road.
5. Cincinnati - Believe it or not, they really are that good. The offense dominates and S. FL. really starts missing Matt Grothe.
6. North Texas - I'll go with the team that has won a game.

3. Texas over Oklahoma
4. Virginia Tech over Georgia Tech - by a landslide
5. South Florida over Cincinnati - cincinnati will probably move up in the polls, even after loosing this game!
6. Florida Atl. vs. North Texas - everything is bigger in texas, except my excitement over this game.

Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor Takes a Break from Writing his Memoirs to Make his Weekly Picks:
ReplyDeleteLast week was The Professor's best week of the 2009 Guest Panel season thus far. Let's see if he can keep up the momentum with another solid week of picks.
Ohio State def. Purdue: Thanks to Moderator Joey for some interesting factual history and insight into the background of the nickname, "Boilermaker". I guess before that game vs. Wabash College in the late 1800s, the team nickname was "The Perpetually 3rd Place University in Indiana, after Notre Dame and Indiana"ers.
USC def. Notre Dame: Jimmy Clausen, Heisman Trophy candidate? Nevertheless, USC is still USC, and they'll be playing for Johnson in this game. Plus, McKnight knows how to push Barkley into the end zone for the game-winning TD, should he need to do so.
Texas def. Oklahoma: Obviously, the Professor's A+ game of the week. Although the rankings and records would suggest that this won't be a close game, with Bradford back and it being a HUGE rivalry game, methinks that it'll be decided by a TD or less.
Virginia Tech def. Georgia Tech: I'm starting to think that the Guest Panel Moderator is starting to drift away from choosing games involving his favorite teams (the Michigan directional schools) towards each and every Virginia Tech game. Knowing my luck, my Hokies will lose this game, and then win next week when their game is not on the Guest Panel schedule.
Cincinnati def. South Florida: Cincinnati had a big feature story on the team/Pike/Coach Kelly a few weeks ago in Sports Illustrated. It wasn't the cover story though, hence the SI cover curse will not be in effect, and the Bearcats win. If that's not logic that you can take to the bank, I don't know what is.
North Texas def. Florida Atlantic: I'll go with the slightly less craptastic (and home) team in this one. Plus, Mean Green is a much better team nickname than the Owls. Are Owls native to Florida? Because Mean Green is certainly native to North Texas.
Pat Head's Picks:
ReplyDelete1. Ohio State over Purdue
2. USC over Notre Dame
3. Texas over Oklahoma
4. Georgia Tech over VPI – I’m going out on a limb!
5. Cincinnati over South Florida
6. Florida Atl. over North Texas
