13 comments:

  1. 1. Illinois vs. Cincinnati
W-UC: Cincinnati always seems to play weeknight games. Why is that?

    2. Arizona vs. Arizona State
W-Arizona: Can Yellow #5 make a huge comeback and not be in last place by season's end?

    3. Arkansas vs. LSU
    W-LSU:

    4. Utah vs. BYU
W-BYU: I love watching these "smaller" schools give BCS pollsters a difficult time.

    5. Pittsburgh vs. West Virginia
W-Pittsburgh: Picking two weeknight games is really throwing me off. Wait...judging by my record I don't think that's the only thing screwing me up.

    6. Eastern Michigan vs. Akron
    W-Akron:

  2. How excited is Joe that Buckeye Cock is posting his picks on Monday and not Thursday at 8 pm?

This is a week to give thanks and Buckeye Cock would like to give thanks to Rich Rodriguez and the rest of the Wolverines. Thanks for all that you do and for letting Jim Tressel give you the cock drop again. On to the championship:

    1. Cincy - Big East showdown next week! Here's an idea, the Rose Bowl realizes that all teams from the Pac-10 suck this year and decide to invite the Bearcats to play the Buckeyes.

    2. Arizona - As much as I think the home team will win this one on senior day, I can't pick State.

    3. LSU - Could Les Miles get fired at the end of the year after last weeks debacle? It's possible.

    4. BYU

    5. WVU - Pitt goes heads into a very hostile environment and loses to the Mountaineers. By the way, Pitt's only loss is at NC State. Who loses at NC State?

    6. Akron - Gotta root for the hometown Zips.

  3. Old Bag of Man:

    1) UC wins. Unless Juice Williams decides to play like he did against Michigan.

    2) Arizona wins. They almost had it Saturday night.

    3) LSU wins. Unless it comes down to the last second play.

    4) BYU wins. Does Ty Dettmer still play?

    5) Pittsburgh wins. Nice tune up before they meet UC next week.

    6) Akron. Go Ohio.

Got to make up some ground these last couple of weeks….go big or go home!!!!!

    Illinois shocks Cincinnati

This classic trap game finds the Bearcats looking ahead to their match-up with Pitt. Well…that and the fact their head-coach might be nursing ideas of becoming the next head-coach for the Golden Domers. I’ll save my last jab at Charlie Weiss for ND’s Toilet-Bowl-Game pick.

    Arizona State maroons Arizona

Check out the last 5 games for the Sun Devils…USC, CAL, Stanford, Oregon, UCLA. Just like the OSU/MICH seasonal game your record is second fiddle to beating your rival. Expect this night game to be raucous!!!!!

    LSU devours Arkansas

At home…in New Orleans…not many who can hang with the Tigers…especially not a pack of Razorbacks!

    Utah stomps out BYU

The battle for second place in the conference will be the game-of-the-week IMO. TCU’s rise to the ranks of controversial BCS contender drags with it this match-up of two teams undefeated in conference play if not for Ladainian Tomlinson’s alma mater.

    WVU disarms Pitt

Get it…disarm-s-Pitt!!! I like my chances with this minor-upset choice. At home in the backwoods of that moon-shine hillbilly cousin-marrying po-dunk state, the Mountaineers will make the Panther’s ‘Squeal like a pig’!!! Oh my…too much?

    Akron pummels EMU –

What’s the last round of picks of the season without a Michigan-Directional thrown into the mix!

  7. Batman

    Games for this week:
    1. Cincinnati (Friday)
    2. Arizona
    3. LSU
    4. BYU
    5. West Virginia (Friday)
And the oddball game this week is:
    6. Akron

I want to take an opportunity this week to talk about Mark Mangino, Head Coach Kansas Jayhawks.

Summarizing from an ESPN article: Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins has launched an investigation into Mangino allegedly grabbing, yelling at and putting his finger in the chest of senior linebacker Arist Wright, who had been laughing during a walk-through or practice prior to the Oct. 17 Colorado game, two people briefed on the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday night.

I have found this story very interesting.

Two things are going on: first is Kansas is losing so all of the haters are coming out of the woodwork. Second is a fascinating dynamic as to what is the line between motivation and abuse.

I am squarely in Mangino's corner based on the information available. Putting a finger into someone's chest...are you kidding me?

However, words spoken in confidence should stay in confidence. Trust is important between players and coaches. Once it is lost, it cannot be re-gained.

As a player, I liked it when coaches worked to to make me a better player. As a coach, I know that different players can accept different amounts of criticism and will respond uniquely.

I will continue to monitor the events and would be interested in what the rest of this panel thinks.

  8. Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor Writes:

BIG time props to El Cockerino for pulling even with Pat Head. Honestly, I didn't think he had it in him, 2 games down with 3 weeks to go, and I told him that as well. It'll be a fun final 2 weeks, and bowl game season as well. Personally, I'm just aiming for a top 3 finish so I won't be relegated to the D League.

Cincinnati def. Illinois: Would Coach Kelly be wise to accept the Notre Dame head coaching position after the season ends? Perhaps, but, he'd be without Skyline Chili living/working in South Bend. Tough choice...

Arizona def. Arizona State: ASU definitely has one of the better team nicknames in intercollegiate athletics. But, that, in and of itself, won't be enough to beat the far less superior nicknamed Wildcats of the University of Arizona.

LSU def. Arkansas: Arkansas has won the last two games in this series, and after its clock management debacle against Ole Miss last Sat. night, all signs point to another Arkansas victory. Why the h*ll am I picking LSU then, you ask?!?! LSU: 5-1 at home (with the only loss coming against the #1 in the country). Arkansas: 0-3 on the road. 'Nuff said.

Utah def. BYU: This rivalry game's nickname is the "Holy War". Very appropriate. Going with the Utes in a minor road upset - they've won six of their past eight visits to Provo. Now THAT'S research you can take to the bank. On a side note, each of the Utes' players and coaches plan on celebrating the victory by marrying at least 3-5 women.

Pittsburgh def. West Virginia: These end of season rivalry games are always tough to pick (i.e. look what happened in this exact game two seasons ago), and the oddmakers are at even money on the game, but, methinks the Panthers sneak by with a 3 point victory.

Akron def. Eastern Michigan: It had been a few weeks since our esteemed Guest Panel Moderator had selected a game involving one of his favorite teams, the Michigan directional schools. I was getting worried there for a bit. I'll go with the team that's actually won a game this season, although that line of thought has betrayed me in the past with the oddball game.

  11. Pat Head's Picks:

    1. Cincinnati over Illinois - Not sure that this will be a blow out.

    2. Arizona over Arizona State - Perhaps I will be wrong, but I don't see how this one will be close.

    3. LSU over Arkansas - I'm not confident in this pick, but LSU, even this team, is tough to beat in Tiger Stadium.

    4. BYU over Utah - I am sick of the Mountain West.

    5. Pittsburgh over West Virginia - I don't like West Virginia, so I'm picking Pitt.

    6. Akron over Eastern Michigan.
