Congrats to Buckeye Cock on a solid championship. If only someone hadn’t put their faith in Pitt.

  5. Old Bag of Man picks his bowls:

    1) Fresno St. They have a new receiver, and he's 350 lbs

    2) UCF.

    3) Souther Miss.

    4) Oregon State.

    5) California.

    6) Nevada.

    7) Ohio.

    8) Pitt.

    9) USC. Though it would be funny if they lost.

    10) Clemson.

    11) Georgia.

    12) Temple.

    13) Wisconsin.

    14) Bowling Green.

    15) Arizona.

    20) Va Tech.

    21) Auburn.

    22) Penn State.

    23) Florida State.

    24) Ohio State. Oregon hasn't seen a defense like ours all year. Watch out for Duck punches from Mr. Blount.

    25) Florida. But it would be good to see 2 losses to end Tebow's career.

    26) South Florida.

    27) South Carolina.

    28) Oklahoma St.

    29) Arkansas.

    30) Texas Tech.

  6. PART I
Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor, after a horribly Purdue-esque (i.e. mediocre) performance in the regular season, hopes to rise to a Florida-esque (i.e. championship level) for the postseason. And congrats to the Lil' B.C. on his first regular season title. You are now the hunted.

    1. New Mexico Bowl
Fresno State def. Wyoming: Don't save a horse, don't ride [the] Cowboy[s].

    2. St. Petersburg Bowl
UCF def. Rutgers: This has to be the only bowl game involving two teams with the word "Knights" in the team nickname. Strange, but true...this game will be followed on ESPN by an episode of "The Twilight Zone".

    3. R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Southern Miss def. Middle Tennessee State: If faculty salaries hadn't been cut this academic year, the Professor would likely be attending this game with Mel Kiper's Hair. Can't think of a much better weekend than 3 days in New Orleans, a bowl game, and the best hair in the sports business.

    4. MAACO Las Vegas Bowl
Oregon State def. BYU: SOOOOOOOO much sexual innuendo in the nicknames of these two teams. And that's perfectly fine with this Professor.

    5. San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
Utah def. California: I hate picking these games that have 3 point lines. It's basically a pick 'em game. Thanks Las Vegas.

    6. Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Nevada def. SMU: Now THIS is a bowl destination. If I was a player/coach in this game, I wouldn't even care to receive a schwag bag.

    7. Little Caesars Pizza Bowl
Ohio def. Marshall: WORST BOWL GAME NAME EVER. And Marshall might be the worst team to receive a bowl berth this season.

    8. Meineke Car Care Bowl
Pittsburgh def. North Carolina: Another 3 point line game. Grrrrr...but since Pitt would be in the Orange Bowl if their placekicker could make an extra point, advantage Panthers vs. the Jekyll and Hyde-esque Tar Hells.

    9. Emerald Bowl
USC def. Boston College: It brings a smile to the Professor's face to see the Trojans in a day after Christmas bowl game, even though they're going to win this game vs. the Eagles.

    10. Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Clemson def. Kentucky: If my memory serves me correctly, the Music City Bowl is usually one of the more entertaining bowl games each year. Prepare for fireworks.

    11. AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl
Georgia def. Texas A&M: One of the more difficult bowl games to pick, seeing as neither team has any defense to speak of. Going with the oddsmakers on this one.

    12. EagleBank Bowl
Temple def. UCLA: The Professor is happy to see Bill Cosby's favorite team in a bowl game for the first time since John Travolta was Stayin' Alive. It's only appropriate that the pre-game be half smokes from Ben's Chili Bowl.

    13. Champs Sports Bowl
Miami def. Wisconsin: How does a team nickname of "Hurricanes" translate into a weird looking duck/crane hybrid bird with a hat and a pipe? Guest Panel Moderator, you have your next research project.

    14. Roady's Humanitarian Bowl
Bowling Green def. Idaho: Idaho may have the home-state advantage, but BGSU has the Freddie Barnes advantage. Final advantage: Barnes.

    15. Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
Nebraska def. Arizona: A boy named Suh will rule them all. Okay, I'm officially done with puns for the rest of my picks.

    16. Bell Helicopters Armed Forces Bowl
Houston def. Air Force: I know it's un-American to against Air Force, especially in the Armed Forces Bowl, but have you seen Case Keenum's stat line this season?!?! We're talking video game numbers folks.

    17. Brut Sun Bowl
Stanford def. Oklahoma: With Colt McCoy departing for greener (and higher tax-bracket) pastures, Toby Gerhart might become my new college football man crush next season.

    18. Texas Bowl
Navy def. Missouri: Faithful readers of the Buckeye Pregame Blog know that one of the teams that I show strong allegiance to (other than the Bucks and the Hokes) are the Mids. You know I'm going with my Middies here.

    ReplyDelete
  7. PART II
    Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor

    19. Insight Bowl
Minnesota def. Iowa State: How a team, let alone two teams, obtain bowl berths (and to a pretty decent bowl game at that) when they have losing conference records?!?! A battle of two teams that define average; going to be a homer and go with the Big Ten team.

    20. Chick-fil-A Bowl
Virginia Tech def. Tennessee: My Hokies let me down numerous times in my regular season picks, but, loyalty wins out over logic in most situations. Don't let me down a fourth time this season Hokies!!!

    21. Outback Bowl
Auburn def. Northwestern: Northwestern is hot coming into the game, Auburn is not. Why this pick, then? My faithful readers and devoted followers, we're talking about Northwestern here. I got respect for a great academic school like Northwestern playing in the Big Ten, but come on, really??? In the SEC vs. the Big Ten, 9 times out of 10, go with the SEC.

    22. Capital One Bowl
LSU def. PSU: See my analysis above. Even though Les Miles can't manage the clock at a preschool, he'll pull something out of his a** to win this one.

    23. Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
West Virginia def. Florida State: The only reason that FSU received such a good bowl game berth was because of an unemployed 80 year old man. Take the Mountaineers, with the points. Gonna be a blowout.

    24. Rose Bowl presented by Citi
Ohio State def. Oregon (total points = 54) The game we've all been waiting for. Classic match-up of offense vs. defense. I hope that The Vest & Co. watched the Ducks' opening game of the season vs. Boise State and learned how to slow down Masoli & Co. (and no, it doesn't involve getting punched in the mouth by the Ducks' RB). The Bucks still have something to prove to all the doubters around the country, i.e. we can beat a strong out of conference opponent in a spotlight game. Here's praying to all that is holy that it happens in this game.

    25. Allstate Sugar Bowl
Florida def. Cincinnati: I like Cincinnati, I really do. I think if Pike had stayed healthy all season, he would have been a Heisman Trophy front-runner. And they're a really fun team to watch play. But, with Kelly gone, and a near upset loss to Pittsburgh (not to mention WVU as well), and Tebow's last game, methinks the Big East continues to lose (undeservedly so) respect in the eyes of pollsters and media around the country.

  8. PART III
    Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor

    26. International Bowl
South Florida def. Northern Illinois: How do games like this one manage to sneak in after New Year's Day?!?!

    27. Papajohns.com Bowl
South Carolina def. Connecticut: Okay Joey, I'm getting quite tired here. The Professor can only provide so much take it to the bank analysis and game insight in a short period of time. Anyways, SEC vs. Big East, always take the SEC. On a side note, this is Lil B.C.'s favorite game of the bowl season.

    28. AT&T Cotton Bowl
Ole Miss def. Oklahoma State: Weren't these two teams supposed to be playing in BCS bowls and have Heisman Trophy contenders?

    29. AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Arkansas def. East Carolina: The Arkansas QB Mallett will be a top 5 pick in the 2011 NFL draft, set it in stone.

    30. Valero Alamo Bowl
Texas Tech def. Michigan State: Oh poor Spartans, prepare for the complete opposite of glory. When 1/2 of your team is suspended, it's probably going to be a dissapointing bowl game for you.

    31. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
TCU def. Boise State: Both teams have great offenses. The Horned Frogs win with their defense. Gamblers, take the over in this one.

    32. FedEx Orange Bowl
Georgia Tech def. Iowa: Iowa = overrated. The Yellow Jackets are going to confuse the hell out of the Hawkeyes with the triple option offense.

    33. GMAC Bowl
Central Michigan def. Troy: This is Joey's favorite game of the bowl season (i.e. a game involving a Michigan directional school).

    34. Citi BCS National Championship
Alabama def. Texas: The SEC wins the title for the 4th straight season. I hate to say it, but when will the streak end? I really am sort of rooting for Texas just based on that fact, but, when you have a player who's nickname is "Mount", you just can't bet against them.
