Guest Panel-Week 6 Games and Standings

Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week. Below are the standings as well. Mel Kiper had four panelists join him at first in this rough week for the Guest Panel. The best record was 4-2 and only five panelists picked four games correctly. The Big Jump of the week was Big Dog moving from 7th to a tie for 1st. Now only two games separate 1st from 9th.

Old Bag of Man is back where he belongs, in first place.

    1) Nebraska. I hate to admit it but after last game I'm losing faith in our offense.

    2) Kansas St.

    3) Iowa.

    4) Michigan.

    5) Oklahoma

    6) N. Texas

  5. Buckeye Cock:

Wow, you have a little faith in a team and they drop a goose egg like that. How did we fall so far? I've been an OSU fan for about 10 years now and I've never seen us this bad. Weird!

    1. Nebraska - On the plus side, I LOVED watching the Badgers pummel the Huskers. Now they get to pummel us. Boooooo!

    2. Missouri - Geaux Tigers! Oh wait, wrong team.

    3. Iowa - In an upset, I think, I actually like Iowa in this one.

    4. Michigan - Dark horse Big 10 (11) <12> Champions.

    5. Oklahoma - Not even close.

    6. North Texas - They did win a game.

  6. Nebraska over Ohio State. 10,000 Bucks fans sold tix to MSU people last week. Embarrassing. Another struggle just to gain first downs this week in Lincoln. 19-6 Huskers.

Kansas St. over Mizzou. The Brown Brothers have reemerged...

Iowa over Penn State. Two midlevel Big Ten teams. Yawn...

Michigan over Northwestern. Was considering the Mildcats, but they lost to Army, and only squeezed by Rich Rod by seven last season.

Oklahoma over Texas. I never get to watch this game, and '11 won't be any different...

Florida Atlantic over N. Texas. FAU does not play its home opener till NEXT WEEK!! Wow! Those locked out of tickets for the Red River Rivalry get to attend this one...

  8. After a week and a half long sabbatical (and it was a good one, let me tell ya), Paul the Octopus returns from his time away to find himself in a tie for sixth place. How did this ever happen?!?! I guess that's what happens when you spend a bit too much time at the aquarium. It's now Week #6 in the Guest Panel picks - time to step up my game and make picks with my mind, not with my heart.

Nebraska def. Ohio State: I can count on less than one hand the number of times in my time as a Guest Panelist that I've picked against Ohio State in its games. I can see myself nearing two full hands by the time this season is over, and that trend begins this week.

Kansas State def. Missouri: The most difficult game of the week to pick, by a fairly wide margin. Believe it or not, Mizz is favored by 4 points, away, versus a team that's undefeated, playing at home, and ranked #20. Perhaps those guidos in Las Vegas know something that I don't (other than how to make a mean meatball), I'm not too sure, but, an underdog Wildcat is a motivated Wildcat.

Iowa def. Penn State: Yes, I know the game is at Beaver Stadium which is a huge advantage for the Nittanys, but, come on now, when you beat Temple by 4 and Indiana by 6, it is not the sort of season where PSU fans can confidently say "We Are...!"

Michigan def. Northwestern: This is actually a very difficult game to pick, in this humble Guest Panelist's opinion. Even though the Maize and Bluers are undefeated and ranked #12, their most impressive win was against an overrated Notre Dame team, a game that it probably should have lost. Despite all of those cons, Northwestern doesn't exactly like to play run defense, so will likely translate into a big day for Shoelace (my favorite nickname in all of college football).

Oklahoma def. Texas: All of those commentators and whomever else saying that Texas is "back" after last season's disappointment? This Guest Panelist calls bulls**t. A 1 point win over a bunch of Mormons at home is not what I would call a major accomplishment, and somehow the Longhorns have managed to turn that win into a #11 national ranking. Take the Sooners with the points. For the gambling degenerates (and yes, I know all of you missed me last week), mark this game down as Paul the Octopus’ Week #6 8 Tentacle Death-Hold Pick of the Week (4-1 record so far in such games, and yes, I would have picked Alabama over Florida last week, so, I'm counting that as a W).

North Texas def. Florida Atlantic: Week #6 of the Guest Panel season, and, as far as I can tell, zero oddball games involving the Michigan directional schools thus far. Pat Head, if you will, please take the Guest Panel Moderator to a psychologist for a mental evaluation, because this is not the Moderator that we've all grown to know and love. Something is amiss in Buckeye Pregame Blogspot Land...

  9. Batman

Feels great to be back on top of the pack. But let's be honest, no one is having a great season. Parity is the name of game so far. Who will separate from the pack?

    1. Nebraska - very easy pick. There are no easy answers to the problems at OSU. It will take patience and support. I am giving both but not at the expense of losing a game in the picks contest!

    2. Kansas State - did you know that Willie's in Maderia is a Kansas State bar? Little known fact I found out last weekend. I also think KSU is pretty darn good, especially to beat Baylor. Has anyone seen RK3? Up to last week he has thrown as many touchdown passes as incompletions! Wow.

    3. Iowa- they have Penn State's number every year. This toss up goes to Iowa because of the lack of offense at Penn State...they are 4-1 but have truly struggled.

    4. Michigan - I think they have just enough strenth to beat NW at night in NW. This will be a great game

    5. Oklahoma - Again could go either way due to such a huge rivalry game but Oklahoma has title aspirations and I see them being ready for this game.

    6. North Texas

I give a lot of credit early in the season to Illinois. Are they for real?

  10. Pat Head's Picks:

    1. Nebraska over OSU: I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. This is the first time I have ever picked against OSU. I'm really hoping I'm wrong, but considering the blow to OSU's team this week, I just don't think they can pull it together. P.S. I think Posey and Boom should be kicked off the team.

    2. Kansas St. over Mizzou: Mizzou will be distracted and K State will say "screw you Vegas!"

    3. Penn State over Iowa: Considering how anemic Penn State's offense was last week against IU, I'm not confident in this pick, but I don't think Iowa is much better.

    4. Michigan over Northwestern: At some point Michigan has to lose, right??

    5. Oklahoma over Texas: Boomer Sooner.

    6. N. Texas over FAU: The Mean Green at least have a win. Plus they have scored more points in their losses.
