  3. Buckeye Cock:

    Stupid Buckeyes!

    1. Illini - Hopefully Braxton isn't going to be out for too long. Can we put in the third stringer please?

    2. Michigan - This should be a good one. I like the Wolf defense in this one.

    3. Baylor - The Aggy defense isn't able to stop anybody.

    4. Toledo - They really are pretty good. I saw them in person.

    5. South Carolina - I put my full faith and support behind my fellow Cocks!

    6. Central Michigan - My favorite directional Michigan team.

  4. Old Bag of Man is ready for some spaghetti eating with Joe.

    1) OSU. I'm more confident...unless Bauserman plays.

    2) Michigan. Not impressed with either but at least Michigan has an offense.

    3) Texas A&M.

    4) Toledo. Had to apologize to my BG alum wife.

    5) S. Carolina.

    6) Central Michigan.

  8. Mel Kiper's Hair10/12/2011 6:53 PM

OSU v. Illinois - The only shock the world is witnessing is the Buckeye opponent's electrodes are making on our gonads this year. Bauserman is worse than terrible and honestly Miller doesn't have the same stuff as Pryor did. Say what you like but this panelist continues to miss our old tatted pal. Trying to stay focused and what better way to test our optimism than experiencing defeat in the manner we did last week. All signs point to a loss but MKH will hang his hat the Illibuck comes back to Columbus this season. Win OSU.

Michigan v. MSU - MKH sees now the genius of our moderator at work. By withholding the heralded Buckeye Pre-Game Blogspot intra-state Michigan directional odd-ball game pick until week 7, he sneakily allowed for this additional and somewhat overshadowing inter-state Michigan pick-em match. This panelist is beginning to think the directional games are meant to be forgotten! For what...only Joe knows....but rest assured readers MKH will be assiduous in reading too deep into the matter. Unfortunately for all involved M**higan wins.

Baylor v. Texas A&M - At an earlier junction in the pick-em season MKH made some disparaging comments as to the state of Baylor football. He also went on to place faith in an Aggie team who had no business being on the receiving end of such praise. So the question at the moment is whether to listen to the 'burn me once shame on you....' adage or to toss his hat into the ring and give it another go. Opting for the latter - A&M will finally win against a ranked opponent.

Toledo v. BGSU - Were any other panelists surprised the Wisconsin/Indiana game wasn't on the week 7 docket? While this classic MAC ground-and-pound land-war for North-West Ohio intrigues - it surely doesn't carry the weight a knuckle-biting BIG10 Leaders divisional gut-check will. So what if the Badgers are giving 40 at home...at noon....at least it's High noon and everybody knows that in Madison this means so much more than just brats and beer. Anyhoo.....Rockets win, a tree falls in the forest, a bear sh*ts in the woods...

South Carolina v. Miss St - Vegas must know something this guy doesn't....Miss St only getting 4 at home with wins against the Little Cousins of the Dilapidated and Mother Superior's Kitten Farm makes no sense. Gamecocks win big in this one....and by at least 16....take it to the bank!

Eastern Michigan v. Central Michigan - Aaaaahhhh....finally a beacon of familiarity in these tumultuous NCAAF 2011 season waters....the much awaited, much anticipated, much over-hyped Mighigan directional-game. If you'd asked MKH for odds this time last season that our star QB would be on an Al Davis-less Raiders side, that our somewhat-mediocre running back would be serving essentially a whole-season suspension thus dropping his draft stock to essentially nil, that Jim Tressel would hold some vague 'consultant' position on a Peyton Manning-less Colts team and that this panelist would have intimate knowledge that Wales, France and Australia making the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup would were considered upsets....well MKH is no stat's man but the word astronomical comes to mind. So it's with great relief for this panelist to find stable ground in commenting on what has been a staple of Blogspot chatter since....well probably the invention of the internet. Vegas says it's a no-brainer and while MKH is in agreement that the traditional powerhouse of the MAC will win over the traditional MAC bottom-feeder, the outcome will be narrower than the 13 given. Central wins at home with their air game.

  9. Illinois over Ohio State. Frightening to think what the winds of Champaign will do to Bauserman's passes. Of course, just frightening if it gets to the point of having to use Jittery Joe. 23-16, Illini

Michigan over Michigan St. Amazing what an upgrade Hoke is over Rich Rod.

Texas A&M over Baylor. A&M has betrayed me twice in this contest.

Toledo over BGSU. Toledo overcomes 27 penalties and three ejections to win this one.

South Carolina over Mississippi St. USC > UGa > Miss St. South Carolina can't afford another loss.

Central Michigan over Eastern Michigan. The other big in-state game featuring Michigan universities. Those Michiganders who don't wish to watch either of these games can attend Ferris State at Hillsdale.

  10. Batman,

I congratulate anyone who picked Penn State last week. Truly gutty pick. This week goes:

    1. Ohio State - they took an improved step last week at Nebraska. Should probably have won. Another nugget, never put your faith in Ron Zook. He'll always let you down.

    2. Michigan State Spartans. Here is how I break this game down: Michigan seems one-dimensional with a dynamic QB who has shown most of his moves through the first six games. State will make UM beat them some other way. And I don't think UM is that multi-faceted. I am thinking Sparty wins comfortably as they discombobulate UM and dominate.

    3. Texas A&M - third time's a charm.

    4. Toledo a good MAC team. A bad MAC team...Miami (OH) who did get a nice victory last week.

    5. South Carolina - team rallies behind new QB and unites. Another nugget - Steve Spurrier is a good coach who can be counted on.

    6. Central Michigan. All is right in the world again as Moderator Neff and the picks contest return to the glory days of choosing games involving Michigan directionals.

  11. Paul goes 5-1, and STILL loses ground to the competition?!?! WTF?!?! With that out the way, onto the picks for Week #7:

Illinois def. Ohio State: Once every 2-4 years, Illinois has a good 8-10 win season, plays in a (semi) major bowl game, and Zook gets a 3 year contract extension (please see the 2007 season, which included a 28-21 win over the previously undefeated Buckeyes). The '11 season is one of those seasons for the Illini. The other 1-3 years of that stretch? Look up the University of Illinois football team in the dictionary, and you'll see the definition of mediocrity. On a related note, I would love to see the schools bring back the tradition of smoking a peace pipe to honor this game. Gee, make it happen!

Michigan St. def. Michigan: This must be the trophy weekend for the Big 10, what with the Illibuck trophy and the Paul Bunyan trophy both being up for grabs. Although you have to admire what the Wolverines, Shoelace, and Big Daddy Hoke have done so far this season, beating Notre Dame and Northwestern does not a #11 national ranking make. And yes, Sparty lost to ND (by 18 points even), but even with that game, the defense is still #1 in the FBS. Methinks that the #1 defense unties the Shoelace and MSU gets the 5th straight win in the series.

Baylor def. Texas A&M: How the Aggies are favored by 10 points to win this game, I will never know. A&M has burned Paul the Octopus previously this season, and he's been burned by Baylor as well, so, you can bet that he's not going to be making the same mistake twice. Take the Bears all the way. BTW, did anyone know that this game is called the "Battle of the Brazos"? Battle of the what?!?! What the heck is a Brazo? Sounds like something that would only occur in Texas, but it does sound strangely cool.

Toledo def. BGSU: Even though the teams have identical records, take a look at the quality of opponent. I'm going to assume that there's some sort of trophy awarded to the winner of this game, because that seems to be the running theme of this weekend's game. Perhaps ESPN can come up with some colorful moniker for this weekend's game: Meaningless, Yet Amusing and Historic, Trophy Weekend? For the gambling degenerates (I think all of you owe me a portion of your winnings by now), mark this game down as Paul the Octopus’ Week #7 8 Tentacle Death-Hold Pick of the Week (5-1 record so far in such games this season).

South Carolina def. Mississippi St.: Now that Stephen "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" Garcia has dismissed from the team by the Ol' Ball Coach, hopefully the 'Cocks will be able to look past that distraction and concentrate on the important things...like making sure Spurrier throws his visor on the ground less than 3 times per game.

Central Michigan def. Eastern Michigan: FINALLY! THE GUEST PANEL MODERATOR HAS INCLUDED A GAME INVOLVING A MICHIGAN DIRECTIONAL TEAM! Let alone two Michigan directional teams. He must have been waiting for this game specifically to include it. Good ol' Guest Panel Moderator...he may make you wait, but he never disappoints. This game is like a dream come true for all fans of college football games involving the Michigan directional teams...
