Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week. Below are the standings as well. Philly Cheese continues to hold first place, but there was some movement at second place. Batman moved up from third and Black Widow jumped up from sixth. Black Widow was the only panelist to go 6-0.

1. Philly Cheese (30-12) (4-2 last week)
2. Dr. Funkenstein (29-13) (4-2 last week)
2. Batman (29-13) (5-1 last week)
2. Black Widow (29-13) (6-0 last week)
5. Mel Kiper's Hair (28-14) (4-2 last week)
5. Funtik the Hog (28-14) (4-2 last week)
5. Old Bag of Man (28-14) (5-1 last week)
8. SPAM (27-15) (5-1 last week)
8. Corso (27-15) (5-1 last week)
10. Hudy the Dark Knight (26-16) (5-1 last week)

1. Purdue vs. Ohio State

4. Kansas St. vs. West Virginia
5. Texas Tech vs. TCU
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Marshall vs. Southern Miss.
Big Dog Pixx fer da weak:
ReplyDeleteOhio State boils the boilmakers
Michigan State has last week as motivation, GO SPARTY!
North Carolina in football (duke needs to stick to basketball)
West Virginia ~ we're gonna here that gun all day!
TCU, gotta like any team called the horned frogs!
Marshall has to be my clear choice (wife's maiden name was Marshall)
1. OSU - We are 7-0 with two VERY close wins. Let's hope this game is more lopsided just to be safe.
ReplyDelete2. Mich St - Can't root for M^ch@g%n
3. NC - Hey! Ohio U is in the ESPN top 25! Good for them! Oh, and I think UNC will win this one.
4. Kansas St - WV isn't good enough.
5. TCU - Because.
6. Southern Miss - Whenever I read this school name I read it with a strong southern accept in my head - "Suthern Me-iss"
Ohio State - this is not the Tressel/Fickell Buckeyes, nor is this game in West Laayette. Message sounded loud and clear about the defense, with Meyer running practice this week, and Bucks trample the end zone that our moderator is going to run through the following day, 42-14.
ReplyDeleteMichigan - Sparty gets some scoring vs. Wolverine D, but not enough. Michigan's two losses could be against the National Champ Game teams.
North Carolina - Heels overcome brutal travel to this one, as well as Krzyzewski's nasal whining toward the officials to continue to roll.
Kansas St. - Best (only??) D in the Big 12. And despite my leftist leanings, I will go with the Dick Cheney coach over the Matthew McConaghey coach (though Holgersen wins the post-game drinking contest over Snyder, 17 beers to two).
Texas Tech - Can our Moderator's new favorite team (this year's Texas A&M) put its big win last week behind them and go in to TCU for a win?? I say they do so better than TCU can stay out of trouble, and sneak a W.
Marshall - We Are
OLD BAG OF MAN IS MOVING ON UP...TO THE EAST SIDE.
ReplyDelete1) OSU. CAN'T LOSE TO PURDON'T TWO YEARS IN A ROW. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE A QB NAMED TERDBUSH.
2) MICHIGAN. IT PAINS ME TO PICK THEM BUT SPARTY HAS OFFICIALLY SHOWN UP.
3) UNC. IS COACH K COACHING THE FOOTBALL TEAM TOO?
4) WVU. BOUNCE BACK GAME.
5) TCU.
6) SOUTHERN MISS.

First, if you are betting along with my locks I moved to 2-1 on the season. You are now back in the money.
On to this week's games. I think this is Luke Fickell's last year with the squad. Anyone want to argue the other side?
FYI if you are ever in the Mount Gilead area and are relying on the Dish Network to carry the Big Ten Network, you will be severely disappointed. I also found out that there are zero bars in Gilead.
I am going to put in a plug here for Candlewood Lake. Very nice, very peaceful.
Michigan State is just disappointing everyone. Guess their hopes have been dashed.
North Carolina is going to get the win over an improving Duke football team. Speaking of basketball...
Did anyone see the Coaches poll that was released yesterday?
Indiana was #1, Ohio State was #4 and Michigan was #5. Are these people crazy? Indiana is not a #1 team. I always believed in Tom Crean and I like and respect Indiana, but are you telling me there is no one out there better? And Ohio State lost Diebler, Buford and Sullinger and is still ranked that high? Huh? That is respect for Matta and Craft!
The final 3 games were the most challenging but I am going with 2 roadies and 1 homey. The home win goes to West Virginia. I predict this because they have the ability to put up a lot of points, get the crowd rocking and get and maintain momentum against KSU.
I think TTU is rolling in the right direction. I made a big mistake picking them earlier this year against Oklahoma and it cost me first place. But I believe they will win this game because of their QB play.
Finally, I can't pick a winless team to beat Marshall.
Thought of the week: from Tony La Russa
Sometimes we make life fair for ourselves by taking control of the moment.

Funtik the Hog. Absolutely love reading your posts. Keep up the insightful posts!

ReplyDeleteAnother middling 4-2 record last week from everyone’s favorite Hog, sigh…Average results just won’t cut it in the Guest Panel! And what was going on with the Texas over Oklahoma pick?!?! Yikes…worst pick of the entire season thus far. Don’t know what I was thinking there. Here’s to hoping for a better set of results this week. It’s time to show the Guest Panel who the “Top Hog” is!
Ohio State def. Purdue: Our Buckeyes begin to play something resembling defense this week vs. the Boilermakers, but still allow 30+ points. But when you score 55 points, I guess it doesn’t matter too much now, does it? But then again, how the heck did we only be the mighty Hoosiers of Indiana by a measly FG?!?! Mark this game down as Funtik the Hog’s “Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage” Pick of the Week for Week #8 (5-2 record thus far this season, yes, I know I am taking the easy way out with this pick for the second week in a row, but with “only” a 5-2 record so far this season in such picks, for the foreseeable future, you gotta go with what you know).
Michigan def. Michigan State: The Michigan season record formula is pretty simple: non-conference games = loss. Big Ten conference games = win. Since the Spartans were a member of the Big Ten conference last time I checked (pending further review), this game qualifies as a win for the maize and blue.
North Carolina def. Duke: Don’t look now, but the Blue Devils are actually one victory away from qualifying for a bowl game. Will they get that elusive sixth victory in this game? Probably not, but it sure will be fun watching them try!
Kansas St. def. West Virginia: A pretty difficult game to pick for the Guest Panelists. Do we go with the human video game Geno Smith, or the human battering ram known as Collin Klein? Since Klein has at least some sort of defense backing him up in this game, I’ll go with the human battering ram in the slight upset in Morgantown. There will be many a drunken upset hillbilly come late Saturday night in Morgantown. Morgantown porch couches, you have been fairly warned. Live in fear…
Texas Tech def. TCU: Texas Tech beat Iowa State. TCU lost to Iowa State. Following the transitive property, Texas Tech will beat TCU. Except of course since I am picking them to win, they will most definitely lose.
Marshall def. Southern Miss.: I’ll go with the team that has actually won a game or two this season.
Mel Kiper
ReplyDeleteOhio State def. Purdue - Historically I'd consider Purdue better than Indiana. Of course this is 2012 and Indiana has a far superior offense AND OSU will have extreme focus on 'D - fundamentals' this week. Expect a rout.
Michigan def. Michigan State - Oh how the mighty have fallen...what happened Sparty?! Pre-season your vaunted defense was the talk of the nation...too bad your 'O' is less than stagnant - competing in a pitiful Big10.
North Carolina def. Duke - Did UNC ever recover from their player scandal a couple seasons ago? I don't think their 'D' will ever be as good....still enough to beat the devils
West Virginia def Kansas State - This might be the highest scoring game of the week (excluding of course the potential for OSU to lay another brick...)
Texas Tech def. TCU - Does this match highlight the science vs. God contest? What do we do when TT wins and their QB references the sky?
Marshall def. Southern Miss - Tossing coins has prooven just as effective with my odd-ball picks this year....only diminished returns expected on real analytical effort.
Spamsandwichsan says...
ReplyDelete1. Ohio State over Purdue - I bet the pizza delivery guy who was fires for telling Fickel's wife the D needed to step it up graduated from Purdue!
2. Michigan over Michigan St. - (insert standby quote here about Sparty being themselves)
3. North Carolina over Duke
4. West Virginia over Kansas St. - I guess the mountains can be pretty rough at night. I expect WV to be playing deliverance by mid third quarter!
5. Texas Tech over TCU
6. Marshall over Southern Miss. - at least Marshall knows what it's like to win!
