Guest Panel-Week 8 Games and Standings

Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week. Below are the standings as well. In what was dubbed "Upset Saturday" by ESPN there were a number of favorites who lost, and that carried over to our Guest Panel. Corso holds first by himself, while Funtik moves up to second. Mel Kiper benefited off a 5-1 record to move from 6th to 4th. The Missouri and Texas victories proved to be difficult to predict by the guest panel.

  2. OLD BAG OF MAN IS NOT SO GOOD AT PICKING UPSETS.

    1) OSU. THE WEEK OFF SHOULD HELP TO GET THE BUCKEYES OFFENSE AND PASS DEFENSE BACK ON TRACK.

    2) FLORIDA. MISSOURI WITHOUT THEIR STARTING QB, IT WAS A NICE STORY WHILE IT LASTED.

    3) FSU. CLEMSON HAS NOT IMPRESSED ME LATELY.

    4) NOTRE DAME. HATE BOTH.

    5) STANFORD. PLAYING A TEAM AFTER AN UPSET = THEY WILL BE MAD.

    6) SMU. NO CHEATING THIS TIME.

Good news....MKH enjoyed not having to pick the Meat-Chicken/PSU 4OT...what a game...and result!

Better news...it appears a certain 'hog pundit' will be travelling to MKH's stomping grounds in the not to distant future! Ready for some shenanigans....

Iowa loses to Ohio State - one of those benign games that could turn out bad for the Bucks...here's hoping we keep our eye on the prize!

Florida beats Missouri - A week of tough games to pick and this one is no exception. One reeling Gator bunch vs their second set of Tigers in a week...

Florida State beats Clemson - think this one is the easiest of the bunch...and MKH will naturally be proven wrong

USC beats Notre Dame - It brings me great joy to imagine 'The Lisp' popping a blood vessel as Mark May rightfully digs into his hubris all weekend

UCLA loses to Stanford - Already missed a UCLA pick once this season...why can't they just stick to the hard-court.

SMU loses to Memphis - It's likely the best part of this contest will be the combined bbq skills of the attendees.

  6. Damn, I thought this was only a seven week contest!!

    Ohio State, 38-13.

Florida - While it is clearly the best league in the NCAA, A&M and Mizzou's experience shows it takes a team an average of one season to compete in the SEC. I don't feel comfortable with this pick, but guessing the Gators may throw Matty Mauk some more sophisticated looks than Van Wert used to...

Florida State - Great matchup. FSU has been crushing people and has the bye week.

Notre Dame - Watch the FSU-Clemson game over this one Saturday night, folks...

UCLA - Two good road wins for the Bruins so far this year, and this makes #3

SMU - A great Big East matchup

It was a good run while it lasted--leading for the first half of the season and now 3 games back. We all knew it was too good to be true...

    1. Ohio State - After losing to Northern Illinois to kickoff the season, 4-2 would seem to be an accomplishment for the Hawkeyes. After noting that the Huskies are 6-0, and the rest of Iowa's schedule has been crap, it turns out it isn't.
    2. Missouri - Don't look now, but Mizzou is 6-0 and scoring a ton of points.
    3. Florida State - Blahblahblah whatever I have said before about Clemson blahblah.
    4. Notre Dame - I can't believe Lane Kiffin lasted as long as he did.
    5. Stanford - I like the Cardinal to rebound this week at home.
    6. SMU - The Mustangs have at least been losing to much better teams than Memphis.

  10. A solid, if unspectacular Week #7 for everyone's favorite hog. Big news of the week is that Cliff Diving Raoul has ceded first place in the Guest Panel standings to a senile mascot-head wearing sports broadcaster senior citizen. Well, better than an senile senior citizen wearing a Wal-Mart plastic bag.

Ohio State def. Iowa: Remember the days in the early-mid 2000s when Iowa was regularly winning 10 games/making New Year's Day bowl games? Yea, I don't remember life pre-Facebook either. Mark this game down as Funtik the Hog's Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage Pick of the Week #8 (6-1 record in such games thus far this season).

Florida def. Missouri: Very difficult game to predict - "Missery" is coming off a huge road win vs. Georgia last week, but lost its starting QB in the game. Florida is coming off a tough road loss vs. LSU, has its own share of injuries, and is carried by its defense (not to mention they're playing a second straight game on the road). Don't ask me why, but I am predicting that a stellar defense on the road overcomes the team with momentum and a back-up QB.

Clemson def. Florida State: Game of the week, possible game of the year? Glad to see that the ACC is finally starting to get a little respect. Boyd's experience and the home field advantage lifts Clemson to a three point victory.

Notre Dame def. USC: Another difficult game to predict (kudos to the Moderator for a good slate of games this week) this week. Not too sure how to go with this one, so, I am going to use The Hair's proven scientific method of the "transitive" property in picking games, and go with Notre Dame because they defeated Arizona State, and USC lost. Simple, but proven and effective.

Stanford def. UCLA: The tough games this week continue...sheesh. Going with the Cardinal playing at home, as I have a very difficult time seeing Stanford losing two straight conference games.

SMU def. Memphis: You know when you're relying on the ESPN.com Facebook user comments for insight on a game, you're in trouble. Selecting the Mustangs based on their passing offense and because Chris Ward from Facebook says so. And Mr. Moderator, a game involving teams from a BCS conference (at least for this season) does not qualify as an oddball game!!! For shame!!!
