  9. Funtik the Hog's 2013 Bowl Game Picks, Batch #1:

A somewhat disappointing end to the regular season, but much kudos to the senile mascot head wearing AARP member for grabbing the Guest Panel mid-way through the season and never relinquishing it.

    Gildan New Mexico
Washington State def. Colorado State: The first week of bowl games usually has a few hidden gems amongst the steaming dog pile of games. This one is a good candidate to be one of those gems. Be sure to have your TV tuned to ESPN at 2 PM to catch this one.

    Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl
USC def. Fresno State: To USC's credit, if they win this game, they'll have a 10 win season. Considering the fiasco that was their season in 2012 and the beginning of the 2013 season, that's saying something.

    Famous Idaho Potato
San Diego State def. Buffalo: The starchiest bowl game of them all!

    R+L Carriers New Orleans
UL Lafayette def. Tulane: The personal favorite bowl game of mine and The Hairs', based on the location and the presenting sponsor.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg
East Carolina def. Ohio: Any intercollegiate or professional sports team with a nickname of Pirates is an automatic winner in my book.

    Sheraton Hawaii
Oregon State def. Boise State: Hehehe...beavers.

    Little Caesars Pizza
Pittsburgh def. Bowling Green: One of the more difficult early season bowl games to predict. The Panthers win because they'll be getting Larry Fitzgerald Jr. (Devin Street) back from injury and BGSU will be coached by an interim head coach.

    San Diego County CU Poinsettia
Northern Illinois def. Utah State: Huskies beat Mormons 10 times out of 10.

    Military Bowl
Maryland def. Marshall: Too many teams that begin with "Ma" in this game. But fear the turtle in this game, regardless.

    10. Texas
Minnesota def. Syracuse: Funtik actually saw the Orange (one of his alma maters) play live in person in early October, and it was not pretty (granted, it was vs. Clemson when they were undefeated and in the top five). They don't fare all that much better versus a slightly underrated Gophers team, although the Orange have been known to pull off bowl game surprises in the past, so who knows...

    Fight Hunger
Washington def. BYU: One of those games that falls under the category of yea sure, why not.

    New Era Pinstripe
Notre Dame def. Rutgers: Didn't Notre Dame play in the national title game last year, and it's best player was a national punchline? Did they even play any games this season?

    Belk
North Carolina def. Cincinnati: Going with the Tar Heels because it's pretty much a home game for them, and the Bearcats play in the AAC, which is an automatic two strikes against any team participating in a bowl game.

    Russell Athletic
Louisville def. Miami, FL: Also known as the Teddy Bridgewater 2014 NFL Draft #1 Pick Audition Bowl.

    15. Buffalo Wild Wings
Kansas State def. Michigan: The Moderator will have to settle for a non-directional Michigan team in this bowl season, as none of his favorite Michigan directional teams made a bowl game. It was a down year for the compass teams...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Bell Helicopter Armed Forces
Navy def. Middle Tennessee State: It'd be sacrilegious if I picked against a team whose campus is about 45 mins. away from where I live. Go Navy, Beat Army! Whoops...about two weeks too late for that one.

    Franklin Amer. Mort. Music City
Ole Miss def. Georgia Tech: Going with my standby rule of when in doubt, go with the SEC in most, if not all, situations.

    Valero Alamo
Oregon def. Texas: Part of me really wants to pick Texas in Mack Brown's last game as head coach (personally, methinks he got a raw deal, but that's another story for another time), but Oregon just has too much on offense to lose to a clearly inferior team in Texas. On another note, I am upset that I still have yet to see my dream title game match-up of Oregon vs. Alabama.

    National University Holiday
Arizona State def. Texas Tech: Although Texas Tech may have the GQ head coach, ASU is the far better team. Plus, much hotter co-eds too. Those two factors added together equal a big win for the Sun Devils.

    AdvoCare V100
Arizona def. Boston College: I make one prediction for this game (other than the final result) - there will be a lot of rushing yards in this game (the game features the nation's two leading rushers). Yea...just a bit.

    Hyundai Sun
UCLA def. Virginia Tech: It somewhat pains me to pick against my Hokies, but, let's keep in mind that this team has lost some BAD games this season - Duke, vs. Maryland in Blacksburg, etc. The Hokies will keep it close, but their QB Thomas makes one final bonehead play in his less than stellar career in the 4th quarter to lose the game.

    AutoZone Liberty
Mississippi State def. Rice: Yea sure, why not.

    Chick-fil-A
Texas A&M def. Duke: For all of his faults, Johnny Football sure is entertaining and fun to watch. I dunno about anyone else, but I'll certainly miss watching him play in college.

    TaxSlayer.com Gator
Georgia def. Nebraska: Although the Bulldogs SHOULD win without much issue, judging by their games this season, this one will come down to the final play.

    Heart of Dallas
North Texas def. UNLV: Near home field advantage gives the Meanest of all Greens the win.

    Capital One
South Carolina def. Wisconsin: In the final act of his collegiate career, Jadeveon Clowney actually decapitates Badgers RB James White.

    Outback
LSU def. Iowa: I remember how the Hawkeyes' running game and tight ends dominated the game vs. Ohio State for three quarters, and then the Buckeyes' sheer talent won out. I see a somewhat similar game here, even moreso with the Tigers' future first round draft pick QB Mettenberger out for this game.

    Rose Bowl Game
Stanford def. Michigan State: For those of you that want to see offensive fireworks, do not watch this game.

    Tostitos Fiesta
Baylor def. UCF: Since when did Baylor head coach Art Briles become a hot NFL head coaching candidate, and also when did UCF QB Blake Bortles become the #1 overall NFL draft in 2014?!?! Did I miss something?!?! Apparently yes...

    Allstate Sugar
Alabama def. Oklahoma: This one could get really ugly for the Sooners...keep in mind that the Crimson Tide are one miracle play of the year (and numerous bonehead coaching decisions) away from playing for their third straight national title.

    ReplyDelete
  12. AT&T Cotton
Missouri def. Oklahoma State: Should be one of the more closely contested and entertaining non-BCS bowl games. Although the Tigers did screw Funtik over in the SEC championship game, I still give them a lot of respect and admiration, and gonna go with them in this game.

    Discover Orange
Ohio State def. Clemson (total points: 79): For the degenerate gambler readers of the Buckeye Pregame Blog, whatever the over/under is in this game, take the over. The defenses in this game should just stay back at the team hotel.

    BBVA Compass
Vanderbilt def. Houston: Even with Vanderbilt losing its starting QB, going with the Commodores here...remember, when in doubt, go with the SEC. James Franklin will likely not be in Nashville come this time next year, sorry Commodores fans.

    GoDaddy
Ball State def. Arkansas State: The fighting David Lettermans beat up on the Red Wolves.

    BCS National Championship
Florida State def. Auburn: It's tough to go against the SEC in most any BCS bowl game, but, Auburn's defense has been pretty much Swiss cheese, while FSU's is one of the best in the nation. Not to mention they have the Heisman Trophy winner under center. Nevertheless, a very entertaining game to be had here.
