Welcome to Week 1 of the Guest Panel. Check back on Friday morning for the picks and comments. Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week.
1. Ohio State vs. Navy
2. Clemson vs. Georgia
3. Wisconsin vs. LSU
4. Appalachian St. vs. Michigan
5. Penn State vs. UCF
And the oddball game this week is:
Hudy Picks for the week
ReplyDelete1. Ohio State vs. Navy - Ohio State
2. Clemson vs. Georgia - UGA - Clemson is not the same team on the road. they cant compete against top SEC teams and they lost a ton on offense last year.
3. Wisconsin vs. LSU - LSU
4. Appalachian St. vs. Michigan - Mich - They wont let that happen again.
5. Penn State vs. UCF - PSU
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Troy vs. UAB - Troy
1. Ohio State over Navy - Most of the talk has been about Braxton and JT, but I'm really more interested to see how far the Buckeye defense has come along from last season.
ReplyDelete2. Clemson over Georgia - It's the first game of the post-Boyd era, but Clemson has done well out of the gate in recent years.
3. LSU over Wisconsin - I want to pick Bucky here, but this just doesn't feel like a game they will win. I hope they prove me wrong.
4. Michigan over Appalachian St. - Playing 1-AA teams is not worth it; playing good 1-AA teams is a bad idea, but UM couldn't possibly lose to them again, right?
5. Penn State over UCF - I'm not happy about PSU poaching James Franklin from Vandy, but I think he'll do well there.
6. UAB over Troy - Am I to understand that UAB interprets "Blazers" as "fire-breathing dragons?"
Ohio State beats Navy - Does Navy still employ the triple option? Take the over on the spread.
ReplyDeleteClemson beats Georgia
LSU beats Wisconsin
Michigan (should) beat Appalachian St - would love to see 2-0 in this series!
Penn State beats UCF
Troy beats UAB

ReplyDeleteOhio State, 19-17. Was very tempted to pick the upset however. If we can't solve their triple-option, we sure won't out score them
Georgia - Clemson will be hard pressed to score
LSU - Slugfest
Michigan gets their revenge game. Can't believe they scheduled this one again!
UCF - both teams reloading in the same positions. UCF won up there last year, so picking them in the August swampy heat
Troy
1. OSU - Going to be a fun and exciting season!
ReplyDelete2. Georgia
3. Wisconsin
4. Michigan - my better judgment says to pick app st but we'll see.
5. UCF
6. UAB

6. Troy vs. UAB- UAB
OLD BAG OF MAN, STILL OLD, STILL PICKING....HIS NOSE.
ReplyDelete1) OSU. NO BRAXTON, NO PROBLEM FOR THIS GAME. PLEASE TELL ME THE NAVY CHEERLEADERS ARE ACTUALLY THE VILLAGE PEOPLE SINGING "IN THE NAVY".
2) GEORGIA. BOTH TEAMS LOST THEIR QB'S FROM LAST YEAR BUT I THINK GEORGIA HAS THE BETTER TEAM TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
3) LSU. I DON'T THINK THIS WILL BE AS UGLY AS THE LAST SEC VS BIG 10 FIRST WEEK GAME (SEE ALABAMA DESTROYING MICHIGAN) BUT WE WILL BE HEARING ABOUT THE SEC DOMINANCE COME SATURDAY NIGHT.
4) MICHIGAN. OH HOW I WANT TO BE WRONG ON THIS ONE. JUST THINK OF THE FUN WE CAN HAVE IF APP ST. DOES IT AGAIN.
5) UCF. PENN ST IS STILL MISSING KEY ATHLETES AT CERTAIN POSITIONS.
6) TROY.
Funtik is going for his third consecutive season winning one of the two Guest Panel championships. Or maybe even go for a double dip (i.e., the "Roll Tide"). Of course, Funtik will be making his Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage Pick of the Week, and will be announcing his College Football Man Crush of the 2014 Season within the next week or two (although the selection was made months ago, and it was an easy choice, but not for the reasons that you think). Anyways, onto this week's picks...
ReplyDeleteOhio State def. Navy: Funtik himself will be in attendance at this game, live in hog! He's been looking forward to this game since the Navy-Ohio State home and home series was first announced. The snout bucket will be in full effect! As for the game itself, yes, Ohio State will win, but it won't be by more than 10-14 points, if that even. Methinks that Barrett makes some big plays in this game, but also have a turnover or two that keeps Navy in the game for 3 quarters. I know it's an easy out, but I have to go with the (relatively) safe pick in Week #1 when there's so much uncertainty and unknowns - mark this game down as Funtik the Hog's Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage Pick of the Week #1.
Georgia def. Clemson: A nice juicy match-up for opening weekend. I know one thing - the Buckeyes are sure glad that Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins are now in the NFL. Continuing a continuing Guest Panel theme from past seasons, when in doubt, go with the SEC in any non-conference match-up.
LSU def. Wisconsin: See above comment. There are just certain rules in life that you don't break.
Michigan def. Appalachian State: The Wolverines finally get some revenge for the upset of however many years ago.
Penn State def. UCF: This game definitely falls into the "yea sure, why not?" category. So many unknowns in this game that it's basically a toss-up. With all else equal, I'll go with the team from the power conference.
Troy def. UAB: Troy was 6-6 last season, UAB was 2-10. That is all.
