N. Illinois vs. OSU Preview Part 4

Northern Illinois vs. OSU, September 2, 3:30 ABC

What to Expect
Many of you may already be looking past this game. Yes Texas is next week and Northern Illinois does not have the overall talent of the returning National Champs down in Austin, but this game is critical in the preparation for rest of the season. There are some relatively new faces on the defense. Some analysts are missing the fact that many of the "new" starters are quite talented, have seen game time, and they only sat out in previous years due to all the great players that filled the positions (just look at the last NFL draft.) What I am saying is that OSU is always stocked at defense, especially linebackers. I will miss all three LBs, but I know that a backup at OSU could easily start anywhere in the country. That being said, this game will help "break in" these players and try to gel the whole unit together. The Huskies bring in some great offensive weapons. It may be a bold statement, but QB Horvath and RB Wolfe could be some of the more talented players at their respective positions that we will face all year. However, their supporting cast may not be up to the test. Their O-Line in particular is very inexperienced, the center is a freshman! Assuming the OSU D-Line can out man their O-Line we should be able to control the running game and hopefully pressure the QB. However if the running game develops it will open up the passing game and vice versa. This could be a close game if our "new" defense doesn't come together early, or our high powered offense could take over and send some Huskie fans home early. Enjoy the game!
