OSU vs. Texas Preview Part 3

OSU vs. Texas, September 9, 8:00 PM ABC

How OSU Looked Last Week
OSU 35 NIU 12
OSU looked unstoppable in the first quarter, scoring in their first four possessions, but they only scored once after that. There were two lost fumbles within the ten yard line, Beanie Wells and Zwick. Pretorius was short on a 51 yard field goal and Pettrey went wide right on a 44 yarder. There were some high notes in the game, 488 yards of offense, Smith went 18 of 25, 72% for 297 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Ginn only had four catches, but he got 123 yards and two touchdowns. Pittman had 111 rushing yards and one touchdown, which makes six of his last eight games 100+ yard outings. As I predicted, Troy Smith ran less, only once for -1 yards. The defense only allowed NIU to get into the endzone once, in the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes did have trouble controlling running back Garrett Wolfe as he piled up 171 rushing yards, lead the team in receiving at 114 yards and caught the only touchdown. One defensive highlight was the interception and 49 yard return by reserve middle linebacker Larry Grant. Grant is playing in his first year after transferring from junior college. Safety Brandon Mitchell led the team with ten tackles.

OSU-What Still Needs Improved
Even though the two fumbles didn't affect the outcome, they are still not acceptable when in the redzone. Tressel needs to pick a kicker and stick with them. I am not a fan of the kicking by committee that we saw on Saturday, and I think that had a part in the fact that two FGs were missed. Wolfe made be one the best running backs this defense faces, but they can't allow any player to rack up that much offense.
