12 comments:

  1. Old Bag of Man needs to recover.

    1) OSU. Keep Bob Griese and his taco comments away from this game. Too easy for him.

    2) Texas. The Big 12 south is not the same conference it used to be.

    3) USC. Let's be real, PAC-10 is USC's conference.

    4) WVU. I thought S. FLA was decent until this past saturday.

    5) MSU. They almost beat Iowa and Minnesota is ready for hockey season.

    6) W. KY. Great name, Hilltoppers.

Hats off to the old man Bobby Bowden. Way to get the job done vs. North Carolina.

Hats off to Oberlin College for their first win of the season, a 19-13 road win vs Earlham. And to DB Eric Enrico who earned his first collegiate win.

Hats off to Iowa. But their doomsday is coming vs OSU in a few weeks. That's my lock pick of the year.

Hats off to the 6-0 pickers last week. You know you are in for a tough challenge when you can't climb the standings after a perfect week.

  7. Andy Katzenmoyer's Professor Jots Down in his Notebook:

I take back everything I ever said about Joey and his love of the oddball games, and my hatred for them. Now, onto the business side of things...

Ohio State def. NMSU: I just got an email from the Athletic Ticket Office that due to ticket allotment returns from NMSU, that tickets are still available for purchase for this game. Granted, New Mexico is a long ways from Columbus, but sheesh, that's kind of embarrasing.

Texas def. Oklahoma State: My man crush McCoy goes up against a team that he has a 3-0 record against, and his team has beaten 11 straight times. Yes, the game is at the house that Boone built (and renovated), but, methinks the 'Horns escape from the 'Pokes with a 7 point win.

Oregon def. USC: The Professor's A+ game of the week. Usually, the Trojans lose an away game against a conference opponent sometime in the beginning/middle of the conference schedule against an inferior opponent, and then steamroll the rest of their conference opponents, get a berth in the Rose Bowl, steamroll their Big 10 opponent, and finish in the top 4 of the final rankings. I think the trend changes on Sat. night vs. the Ducks, and they lose at Autzen. To quote the greatest movie about ducks ever (easily beating "Howard the Duck"), "The Mighty Ducks," "QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK..."

West Virginia def. South Florida: The Bulls have struggled the past 2 games against the conference's top teams. The Mountaineers have Devine and that awesome redneck hillbilly shotgun carryin', 'coonskin cap wearin' mascot. That should be enough to beat the Bulls and their slightly less cool mascot Rocky.

Michigan State def. Minnesota: SPARTANS, PREPARE FOR GLORY! (okay, I know I used this line before for a previous MSU game this season, but, come on, that movie is SPECTACULARLY AWESOME!). I think it's worthy of a repeat performance.

North Texas def. Western Kentucky: WKU should just disband their football program and funnel all the money into the men's basketball team. At least that program is doing things and going somewhere (not unlike Indiana. Coincidence? I think not).

  8. Spamsandwichsan says... Please, Joe, no more oddball weeks!

    1. Ohio State over New Mexico State - first game in a long time that general tickets are available and for sale to the public!
    2. Texas over Oklahoma State
    3. USC over Oregon
    4. South Florida over West Virginia - will I ever learn not to side with USF?
    5. Minnesota over Michigan State
    6. North Texas over W. Kentucky - WKU might stand a chance against my browns, but they will be no match for north texas!

    OSU trounces New Mexico State

At first glance one might mistake the spread in this game for the over/under…44 points is a bundle. Kickoff 12:00. Game over: 12:08. Expect Pryor to look almost god-like in this point-fest extravaganza. As Charles Barkley once said, ‘anything less would be uncivilized’.

    Texas drubs Oklahoma St

Boone Pickens has nothing on the Longhorns in this one. With Dez Bryant out for the season it’s hard to believe the Cowboys have a chance. Texas will carry their dominance over Mizzou last week into this showdown and keep their National Title hopes alive.

    USC blasts Oregon

This one has that Game-Day feel to it…yes? The Ducks are playing great football right now, but USC, having obligatorily experienced their seasonal Pac-10 letdown to a sub-par conference foe, will bring the swagger and move up the boards. Want a lesson on how to win big football games OSU fans…watch the Trojans and Pete Carroll put on a clinic this weekend.

    WVU clips USF

The Mountaineers are 3 point favorites and I believe a bruised and battered, (physically and psychologically), Jim Levitt team will be unable to keep them from scoring. Looking forward to picking the Cinci/Pitt/WVU Big East deciding games!

    Michigan State disappoints Minnesota

Michigan State having ALMOST got the better of the Hawkeyes last week will be hungry to hand Minnesota their third loss in a row. At what point will that new outdoor stadium start to bring in the talent needed on the Gopher sideline? My guess…when Minneapolis stops getting cold.

    North Texas trumps Western Kentucky

What do you do when there’s no information about a game: A) Go with the home team, B) Go with the Vegas odds-makers (10 points), C) Go with the team with the cooler mascot – (Mean Green), D) Go with the team with more wins (or in this case – ANY wins), E) All of the above

  11. Pat Head's Pics:

    1. Ohio State over New Mexico State - According to OddsMaker.com, the Buckeyes are 44 point favorites. Why can't the Buckeyes ever play a worthy non-conference team like we do in the SEC...you know, like the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky! ;-)

    2. Texas over Oklahoma State - This could be the last chance for Texas to lose, but I think Texas will come out ahead in a close matchup.

    3. USC over Oregon - USC plays well in big games. I think they have the edge.

    4. South Florida over West Virginia - I'm not confident in this pick, but I reallly don't like West Virginia, so I'm picking South Florida at home, at night on Friday.

    5. Michigan State over Minnesota - The Spartans should have beat Iowa last week. Hopefully they will rebound and beat the Golden Gophers.

    6. North Texas over Western Kentucky - The Hilltoppers can't buy a game. I predict North Texas will win big.
