Pettrey Out for Season With Surgery
The OSU special teams have taken a big hit with the likely loss of PK Aaron Pettrey for the remainder of the season. Pettrey was hit from the side in the second quarter during a kickoff, as he ran downfield. Message boards are filled with suggestions that the chop block was done in retaliation for the recovered on-side kick earlier in the second quarter. Pettrey will have surgery on a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee, which is his kicking leg. He hopes to be back for the bowl game. Devin Barclay will likely do the FGs and possibly the kickoffs. Barclay took over on Saturday and missed two kicks, a 47 yard and a 36 yard field, but he did hit a 29 yard field goal. Barclay, age 26, started place kicking after retiring from professional soccer with the Columbus Crew. Also available for kickoffs and possibly FGs is redshirt freshman Ben Buchanon, who did not play Saturday due to an illness. Tressel really puts a lot of emphasis on special teams, and OSU has depended on the FG in many games. The timing couldn't be worse, as OSU heads into a difficult three game stretch at Penn State, against Iowa, and at Michigan.
