Guest Panel-Week 14 Games and Standings

Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week. Below are the standings as well. Batman has first place all to himself as we enter the final week of the competition. Mel Kiper is at second with Big Dog and Old Bag who both picked seven games correctly last week. Paul the Octopus and Pryor's Ego moved up one spot after going 6-2. Philly Cheese and Buckeye Cock also moved up a spot after going 6-2.

TIEBREAKER-Please list the total number of points scored for the Big Ten Championship Game (Wisconsin vs. MSU). In the event of a tie for first place, I will look to the tiebreaker and the panelist closest to the total number of points, above or below, will break the tie and win. I will only use the tiebreaker for first place.

This is the last week for the regular season competition. The Guest Panel will return with a clean slate for the bowl games
.

  1. Old Bag Of Man has just announced that Urban Meyer will make his picks this week. Here are Urban's picks.

    1) Wisconsin. Sparty can't do it again. 68 points

    2) LSU. Can't they just have LSU and Alabama play again for the SEC championship so we don't have to see it for the National Championship.

    3) Oklahoma St.

    4) Va Tech. Hate them but who else can be them.

    5) Houston. Didn't realize they had a championship game.

    6) N. Texas. Go Armadillos!

  4. I'll need a clean slate after this week: 9th place in the contest, and I dropped an F-bomb on national TV a couple weeks ago. The brain just doesn't operate as it once did...

Wisconsin over Michigan State, 65 combined points. You can't be an upper echelon team, lose a heartbreaker to an opponent, then lose the rematch.

LSU over Georgia. Tigers playing the equivalent of the 4th place team in the SEC West.

Oklahoma over Oklahoma St. If I'm OSU (not our OSU...), I throw to Blackmon every play. Stud. Still(water) won't be enough to beat the Sooners.

Virginia Tech over Clemson. Va Tech not drubbing people, but they are winning, which Clemson is not.

Houston over USM. Head USM Coach, Larry Eustachy, walks out onto the field for warmups and bellows: "Houston!!! We have a problem..."

Mean Green trumps the Blue Bombers. The theme to the Oddball game has been the home team winning. Glad it only took me 14 weeks to figure that out...

postscript: In retrospect, Eustachy is the USM BASKETBALL coach. He will be at a Mizzou frat party during the Houston-USM game...

  5. Buckeye Cock:

As we wind down another great college football season I can't help but look towards the future and be hopeful. Thanks again to Joe for running the guest panel and inviting me to join. Here we go!

    1. Badgers - Ohio State should be in this game and automatically win without having to play. Maybe not this year, but soon enough. (42)

    2. Tigers - Blowout, like Ohio State blue out Duke yesterday.

    3. Sooners - I'm picking the upset, not that it really matters who wins this game.

    4. Hokies - The ACC is down this year.

    5. Houston

    6. Middle Tennessee

Thank you to host Neff for another great season! The time you put into managing this is much appreciated. Here's to hoping Batman doesn't win again...cheers!

  7. Batman:

    1. Wisconsin 54
    2. LSU
    3. Oklahoma St.
    4. Virginia Tech
    5. Houston
And the oddball game this week is:
    6. N. Texas

It has been a tough year, but the one game cushion is huge entering this last week.

I like Wisconsin to avenge an earlier season loss to MSU.

LSU has a great team and I think they will win. Funny ongoing story, I made a $50 bet with a friend earlier this year. He bet LSU would win the National Title (after destroying WV) and I got the field. I immediately jumped on this bet because I thought at some point they would be tripped up. Each week, I sweat a little more.

It was tough to pick against Oklahoma, but I chose against tradition and picked the home team. Also important to note, is Oklahoma loses a lot of big games.

VT and Houston are easy picks, and I'd be suprised if anyone doesn't pick them.

The oddball games have killed me this year!

Most seasons I am down a game or two coming into the final week and have to root for major upsets. Which happens quite frequently in championship and bowl games! This year I am urging all "better teams on paper" to stand tough and do what you're supposed to do.

Good luck to everyone on the panel. It has been a fun season.

MKH is hoping for a miracle to grab the win. Congrats to Batman who came roaring into the final weeks of the season as well as the rest of the contenders who were otherwise out were it not for some spectacular weeks of pick-em. Looking forward to the bowl-season and the Buckeye's 2012 Urban offense which can only get better!

Georgia vs. LSU - Win LSU

Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma St. - Win Oklahoma St.

  11. It's a lost Guest Panel regular season of nothing but pure mediocrity for Paul the Octopus. What a disappointment. I sincerely apologize to my millions of fans (and gambling degenerates) and loyal readers around the world for my lack of success this season. Let's hope the sun is bit brighter in the post-season. And congrats to Batman for his slow, steady, and gradual climb up the standings over the course of the season. You can never count the Dark Knight out of the competition. And of course congrats to my fellow Guest Panelists for a fun, exciting, and dramatic regular season. Now, onto the Week 14 picks...

Wisconsin def. Michigan St. (total points: 58): I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I have no clue how Wisconsin ever lost one game this season, let alone two. Oh yea, their defense can't defend against Hail Marys. Revenge is a great motivating factor, and that plays into an advantage for the Badgers. Although for the gambling degenerates, definitely place your money on the Spartans, as the Badgers are, AMAZINGLY, get 10 points, which is about 6-7 points too many in this humble Guest Panelist's opinion.

LSU def. Georgia: A fair number of commentators are saying that Georgia could give the Tigers a game, that they've won 10 straight games, that they're one of the hottest teams in the country, etc. Please. They've beaten two ranked teams all year (Auburn & GA Tech, both of which were barely ranked at the time, and hardly count as solid wins). Even though I still despise that grass eatin' better to be lucky than good sonuvabitch, his team is going to run over, around, and upside down over the Bulldogs. For the gambling degenerates, mark this game down as the Paul the Octopus 8 Tentacle Death-Hold Pick of the Week #14 (10-3 record in such games so far this season, let's end the season on a high note, eh?).

Oklahoma St. def. Oklahoma: Toughest game of the week to pick, by far. Oklahoma is another one of those teams that I'm shocked lost one game this season, let alone two. Add loss #3 to the record on Saturday, but only because OU is missing its #1 WR & #1 RB, and the game is at OK State. I'd like to see the Pokes be competitive against the Sooners given such restrictions.

Virginia Tech def. Clemson: My Hokies finally return to the Guest Panel! It's been a while...see comments above in the MSU-Wisconsin game commentary re: revenge, and apply it to this game as well.

Houston def. USM: Is C-USA still planning to merge with the Big East to create that super duper mega conference, the Big Conference USA East?

    N. Texas def. Middle Tennessee: North Texas plays its home games at Mean Green Stadium. Best stadium name in the entire FBS, by far.

  13. Pat Head's Picks: Well, I took some risks last week that just didn't pay off. Oh well. There is always the Bowl game contest.

    1. Wisconsin over Michigan St.: (52, not that I have a chance of winning) Wisconsin will be hungrier than MSU after that heart breaking loss.

    2. LSU over Georgia: I mistakingly picked against LSU last week, not going to do it again. I think GA has a chance, but only if LSU is distracted.

    3. Oklahoma St. over Oklahoma: Since the Cowboys are playing at home, I think they have the edge. Although Oklahoma could certainly spoil their hopes of making it to the BCS Championship game.

    4. Virginia Tech over Clemson: Clemson has not played well in recent weeks while the Hokies have been on a win streak. I give VPI the edge.

    5. Houston over USM: Just so Houston can argue that they deserve to be in the BCS Championship game.

    6. N. Texas over MTSU: Sorry MTSU, going with the Mean Green.
