Scouting the Hokies

Offense

Quarterback Michael Brewer graduated from Texas Tech and is playing for the Hokies as a graduate student. He was a backup quarterback at Texas Tech in his senior season after recovering from an injury. Last week he passed 23 of 30 for 266 yards. Freshman running back Shai McKenzie had 106 yards last week and he is backed up by freshman Marshawn Williams and Sophomore Trey Edmunds who had 675 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Ten different receivers caught passes last week, and freshman tight end Bucky Hodges had six catches for 38 yards and one touchdown. Also at receiver are freshman Isaiah Ford, junior Ryan Malleck, and sophomore Joshua Stanford.

Defense

Virginia Tech is known for its aggressive defense under coordinator Bud Foster. Defensive tackles Corey Marshall and Luther Maddy are expected to put pressure on the young Ohio State O-Line. Leading the team in tackles last week was Marcus Harvey and Luke Rhodes with 11 tackles.
