Ohio State had a strong first half and held a 17-0 lead at halftime with touchdowns by Ezekiel Elliott and Jeff Heuerman along with a 49-yard field goal by Sean Nuermberger. Penn State kept Ohio State out of the endzone for the entire second half while it scored 17 points to tie the game with nine seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. In the overtime both teams had touchdown runs, but a costly penalty on the PAT by Penn State put Ohio State in favorable field position in the second overtime. J.T. Barrett had his second touchdown in the second overtime. The Buckeye defense prevented Penn State from scoring and ended the game with an impressive sack by Joey Bosa.
