Gee is coming back
It has been announced that E. Gordon Gee will leave Vanderbilt and return to Ohio State as President of the University, a position he previously held from 1990 to 1997. An announcement is expected at 4PM today. From a sports standpoint, Gee has always been a big supporter of school athletics. At Ohio State he hired Athletic Director Andy Geiger, and together they made the plans for the Schottenstein Center, Bill Davis Stadium (baseball) and renovations of Ohio Stadium. There has been some concern over the fact that Gee eliminated the athletic department at Vanderbilt. Here is the letter he published in 2003 regarding the decision. His act eliminated the athletic director and merged the department with the Office of Student Life and University Affairs. OSU fans can rest assured he will do no such thing at Ohio State. With all due respect to Vanderbilt, the Ohio State athletic department is a whole different animal, and besides not only is it self-funded, it is one of the largest in the nation. We welcome you back Gordon Gee!
