Series History
The Buckeyes lead the series 5-1. Akron won back in 1894, under legendary coach John W. Heisman (yes that Heisman.) At the time the school was called Buchtel College. Ohio State has won in 1891, 1892, 1893, 1895 and 2001. In the 2001 game, Charlie Frye was not able to pull out a victory for the Zips, and the team lost 28-14. Frye is currently the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The game was held on September 8, 2001, the day of the rededication of Ohio Stadium after the renovations.
