Pat Head's picks:
1. Youngstown State vs. OSU - OSU wins - It wasn't close last year, it ain't gonna be close this year.
2. Illinois vs. Missouri - Illinois wins - Truth be told, I don't know much about the Big 12, but I think Missouri was overrated last year and they are gonna get whipped by the Fightin' Zookers.
3. Alabama vs. Clemson - Alabama wins - The Crimson Tide have a tough schedule this year. They play at Clemson, at Georgia, at Tennessee and at Auburn. With so many starting freshman this year, this game could go either way for Bama. I think they'll pull it out though. God help 'em for the remainder of the season!
4. Appalachian State vs. LSU - LSU wins - I know you Big 10 fans think that because Appalacian State beat Michigan last year, they have a fighting chance with LSU...I think not. Miles will make sure LSU doesn't overlook this team.
5. Tennessee vs. UCLA - Tennessee wins - The Vols may have a rocky season this year, but I hope to hell we can at least win against the Pac-10.
And the oddball game this week is…
6. Southern University vs. Houston - Southern University wins - I had to look up Southern University. I thought it was a Seventh Day Adventist college in Chattanooga. Must be a different Southern.
Nostrapigskinus Says:
OSU def. YSU: Do you think that JT feels bad beating up on his former team? I can think of 2.4 million reasons why he doesn't.
Missouri def. Illinois: Illinois doesn't sneak up on anyone this year like they did in '07. Besides, I'm not sure I can take anyone seriously with the nickname of "Juice."
Clemson def. Alabama: I'm pretty sure that Clemson will not meet expectations again this year (because they never do), but, they can at least be an equally overrated Alabama team at home on opening weekend.
LSU def. Appalachian State: As much as I'd like to pick the Mountaineers to pull the major upset for the second straight year (against an opponent that I now hate even more than the Wolverines), I don't see it happening. Like Illinois, Appalachian State isn't going to sneak up on anyone this season.
Tennessee def. UCLA: Tennessee apparently has a two-year home and home series with California state schools nowadays; first Cal, now UCLA. Maybe the UC Santa Barbara Banana Slugs are next?
Houston def. Southern University: I'll give $5 to the first person who can name 2 players on either team without consulting an outside source (media, Internet, friend/family member, etc.) Ready? Go!

Here are the week one picks for Hudy Delights
1) OSU over YSU - 51-3. OSU will come out with a dominate victory as super recruit Terrelle Pryor will have a big coming out part.
2) Missouri over Illinois - 17-7. This was a toss up but the fact that Mizzou is the home team, I am taking them.
3) Bama over Clemson - 24-10 - This is one of those games that it is a shame that both teams cannot lose.
4) LSU over App State - 35-17 - LSU may be rebuilding but they are not coached by Lloyd Carr.
5) UCLA over Tennessee - 24-17 - THis win at UCLA will help to establish their legitimacy in the Pac 10 under new coach Rick "office pool" Nuehiesal.
6) Houston over Southern - 35-17 - No D-1A not named Michigan team should lose to one of the little guys at home.
Buckeye Cock's Predictions:
1. OSU - Let the fun begin. Let's get one thing straight, the focus is squarely on USC. The question is how much do they tease USC with. Will we see Pryor, yes. Will Pryor show us the extent of what he can do, no way.
2. Mizzou will beat the Illini--again. This game has always been very entertaining though. Don't be surprised to see the Juice pull an upset.
3. Clemson - Typical Clemson season: great start, injuries, no ACC title, yet Bowden still keeps his job.
4. LSU - There is no way that LSU will overlook this game after what happened last year. It would be pretty awesome to see them do it agan though.
5. Vols - UCLA already has a bunch of injuries and the season hasn't even started. Go Vols!
6. Houston - A couple of good QB's have come out of Houston.
1. Ohio State over Youngstown State - Hooray, football season is back! Hopefully this game will answer everyone's top question: How fast is Terelle Pryor?
2. Missouri over Illinois - Illinois should be a good team this season, but I think then need time to adjust to life without Mendenhall.
3. Alabama over Clemson - Clemson doesn't respond well to high expectations, and this also isn't actually a home game for them like it looks.
4. LSU over Appalachian State - While a win here would be poetic given Miles's m*ch*g*n ties (and cement ASU's promotion into D-1A), it's not going to happen.
5. Tennessee over UCLA - Neuheisel will be a good shot in the arm for UCLA, but I don't think the turnaround will happen right away.
6. Houston over Southern - Jaguars? Cougars? That's pretty much a toss-up. These teams should have names that make it easier to pick.
1. Youngstown State vs. OSU
W-OSU: Beanie, Beanie, the magical fruit. The more you eat the more you...where'd he go!? Oh, he's in the endzone already.
2. Illinois vs. Missouri
W-Illinois: Mizzwho?
3. Alabama vs. Clemson
W-bama: Will Forrest Gump be at their alumni game?
4. Appalachian State vs. LSU
W-LSU: LSU is going to knock the teeth out of Appalachian State's players. Oh wait...they don't have teeth.
5. Tennessee vs. UCLA
W-Tennessee: Joe only posted this game because Pat Head bribed him with dog treats.
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Southern University vs. Houston
W-Houston: I hope Batman picks differently and gets this one wrong.
Old Bag of Man picks:
1) OSU. The only penguin I fear is the one from the Bud Ice commercials in the early 90's. But OSU does not fear the YSU Penguin.
2) Missouri. Illinois was fun for one game last year. That was it.
3) Clemson. Is Saban still the coach or did he move on again?
4) LSU. Oh how I wish it would happen again.
5) Tennessee. UCLA gets one upset a year and this ain't it.
6) Houston. Oilers or Texans?
spamsandwichsan says...
1. OSU over Youngstown St. - I'm predicting a blow out first quarter so everyone will leave, and then YSU will pull back ahead right before half time... this will give me plenty of time to sneak down to a closer seat (thank you Archie for that [sarcasm] AWESOME alumni game and great seat [/sarcasm]!), so i can actually see the game. of course they will win in the second half, but i will get to catch the winning field goal attempt since they will probably forget to raise the endzone net, being the first game and all.
2. Missouri over Illinois - time to make a generic comment, like "missouri will be able to put more points on the board, which is what they will need to do if they want to win the game!" who doesn't want to win the game? i'm sure the flip a coin during practice and figure they will wait until next week to try and win. i propose a contest to count how many times this season a stupid comment like this is made on any network, even counting Cleveland pre-season games that are announced by Bernie 'the Budweiser' Kosar!
3. Clemson over Alabama - clemson came on strong last year and look to continue that. saban is over-rated, but even though, they will probably continue to make comments about his stellar NFL career... does anyone still talk about Charlie Weis?
4. LSU over Appalachian State - lets be realistic. we know the 'big' schools only do this to build suspense for sports announcers and allow other schools to see what an actual locker room with hot running water looks like. appalacachian state had their 15 minutes of fame (i think that's all it took before we realized Michigan was going to loose) last year. there could be an upset, but it will probably be OSU fans that have a newfound hatred for LSU and their easy victory.
5. Tennessee over UCLA
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Southern University over Houston - their mascots are basically the same. joe should have switched the order since southern university's is a tiger pointing left and houston is a tiger pointing right... at this pace, they won't even play eachother... i'm guessing the defensive will win this game.
TEAM BIG DOG
1. Youngstown State vs. OSU
OSU Romps!
2. Illinois vs. Missouri
Illinois slips by a narrow margin!
3. Alabama vs. Clemson
Clemson crushes Sabin's dream!
4. Appalachian State vs. LSU
LSU is scared by Appalachian, but pulls it out big!
5. Tennessee vs. UCLA
Bruins knock off the orange.
And the oddball game this week is:
6. Southern University vs. Houston
Southern wins with authority!
Batman:I accept the new regular season challenge. And it starts with picking some easy contests: OSU and LSU.The other games are more challenging. I am picking Missouri and Clemson because they are home affairs.I am picking Tennessee to win on the road because of the SEC superiority to the PAC-10.Finally for the oddball contest I consulted some blogs and the posters all are predicting Houston in an absolute romp.So those are my picks. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to the season and the competition.
