Ohio St. - The type of game that last year would have had 'Toledo' written all over it, the Bucks will win 42-17. You saw OSU gain the Urban Meyer swagger around the middle of the 2nd quarter last week.

Vanderbilt - Best academic matchup the SEC can offer (I mean, how does Duron CArter flunk out of OSU, yet gain admission to Alabama? How can Denard Robinson's little brother not get admitted to Michigan, yet get into Florida?). That said, SEC usually rolls the Big Ten, and they claim another victim this Saturday.

Iowa - Exhausting trip from Ames to Iowa City wears down the Cyclones

Georgia - SEC always rolls the Big 12. And, yes, I know Mizzou is now in the SEC. Be careful for what you wish for...

Nebraska - Taylor Martinez returns home, gains a respite from the harsh Great Plains weather, and gets the Huskers a W

Louisiana Tech - Never good when a) your Offensive Coordinator resigns after his first game, as Houston's did, following b) a season opening home loss to Texas State. Maybe our moderator can get a Texas State game incorporated into the Oddball at some point this season...

Funtik the Hog said...

This is a very big weekend in Funtik the Hog’s life. Yes, he has found the one true hog love of his slop bucket-filled life, and will become united as one in the hogpen together. Although Funtik’s first choice was to obviously get married in his home country of Ukraine, the soon to be Mrs. Funtik wanted to be married in her adopted hometown of Rochester, NY (how she decided upon this location over Ukraine, I’ll never know). But alas, such is the life of a (soon to be married) world-renowed college football prognosticator.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, onto this week’s picks (and for the record, let’s not forget that Funtik is tied for first place in the Guest Panel standings after Week #1, two full games clear of the follicles of a certain loud-mouthed ESPN broadcaster).

Ohio State def. UCF: Although Funtik wasn’t able to watch the game, it appears as if the Pope let his young altar boy (okay, Funtik, that went too far! enough with the Catholicism analogies and innuendos!) Miller go nuts in last week’s game. Like most of the rest of the country, Funtik is predicting 9-10 wins for his beloved Buckeyes this season, which is perfectly reasonable and fine, given the circumstances. Even with 9 or 10 wins, the best they’d do in terms of a bowl berth would likely be the Capital One Bowl or Gator Bowl, i.e., as the illustrious President of Ohio State likes to call them, “the little sisters of the poor [bowls].”

Vanderbilt def. Northwestern: The collective academic brain power of the players in this game is incredible. Too bad both teams play in conferences where such powers are rendered null and void. Going with the Commodores based on their respectable showing last week vs. a top 10 (albeit overrated) conference opponent, even though the Wildcats squeezed by Funtik’s beloved Orange.

Iowa def. Iowa State: Although Funtik would love to with the Cyclones and their superhero-esque sounding quarterback Steele Jantz (who, BTW, is the early frontrunner for Funtik the Hog’s College Football Hog Crush of the 2012 Season), he can’t go against the Hawkeyes at home. Even though they are slightly down this year, Iowa ALWAYS wins a game or two every season they have no business winning. Although this is obviously not that game, watch out for the Hawkeyes to ruin the Big Ten title hopes of at least one conference title favorite.

Georgia def. Missouri: This one should be fun to watch; one team hosting its first home game in its new conference, the other team earn back some respect and glory within its conference. Will Mizzou be up to the task? Funtik says yes, but, at the end of a close, hard-fought game, the UGAs will emerge victorious, “between the hedges.” Somewhat cautiously, Funtik the Hog makes this game his “Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage” Pick of the Week for Week #2 (1-0 record thus far).

Nebraska def. UCLA: So what’s the scandal of the week at UCLA? There’s usually at least one or two happening every week within the athletics department.

Louisiana Tech def. Houston: Mr. Moderator, I have a small bone to pick with you. Actually, two small bones. (1) no Michigan directional team in the oddball game yet, and it’s already two weeks in the Guest Panel season. WTF?!?!; (2) you’ll have a hard time convincing me that this is a game involving two truly “oddball” teams. Houston was on the verge of a BCS berth last season, and LA Tech was receiving some BCS bowl game berth preseason love as well. Regardless, the Techsters should be able to handle the Cougars (insert your own sexual innuendo joke here).

1. OSU - Hope Urban runs the score up in the 70's.
2. Vandy - I haven't heard or read anything about NW.
3. Iowa. - one of the few schools not penalized this year.
4. Georgia
5. Nebraska
6. Houston

OLD BAG OF MAN REPORTING AFTER A THREE DAY WEEKEND.

1) OSU. THEY MAY CALL IT THE INELIG-BOWL GAME. LETS FACE IT UCF MAY BE THE BEST CONFERENCE USA HAS TO OFFER BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE IN THE SAME BOWL GAMES WE ARE.

2) VANDY. SHOULD HAVE BEAT AN OVERRATED SOUTH CAROLINA. NW SHOULD HAVE LOST TO A BAD SYRACUSE.

3) IOWA. IS THE IOWA ST. COACH STILL PARTYING WITH UNDERGRADS?

4) GEORGIA. WELCOME TO THE SEC MISSOURI.

5) NEBRASKA. WHAT HAPPENED TO UCLA?

6) LA TECH. I THINK HOUSTON ALMOST LOST TO A BOWL SUB-DIVISION TEAM LAST WEEK...LIKE PITT DID.

5. Nebraska

This week, just some random thoughts and questions...

If anyone is looking for a good time at Ohio State, check out Toos Bar on High Street!

Anyone have access to free or cheap Cedar Point, Kings Island or OSU Football tickets?

Penn State disappointed the country last week.

I loved the goal line stand by Miami (OH) to end the first half. Everybody said or was thinking "Tressel would have kicked the field goal."

NW barely beat Syracuse, I don't see them topping Vandy. Hard pick. If NW does win, they will be considered a legit team and may go to a bowl. Also it is a chance for the Big Ten to beat an SEC team.

Iowa is just going to find a way to win. Georgia is another tough pick. Nebraska I think can handle UCLA.

Loving all the commentary so far, this week I am predicting some separation in the standings.
