  1. Big Dog is stinking up the joint, but here are next weeks pix:
    1. Ohio State will roll (like the Tide)
    2. Northwestern should win
    3. Notre Dame is a pick for all my catholic friends/fans.
    4. LSU will tear this one up
    5. Oklahoma might be able to win (plus, I really dislike Texas)
And the oddball game this week is:
    6. Idaho, only because I like taters!

  3. Ohio State - Bucks will let down until they watch first quarter of IU-MSU game film. No stopping' this train now. 42-14.

Northwestern - Wildcats always burn me in this pool when I go against them. Lets try something new this week.

Notre Dame - Interesting how all the Irish fans ( much like the Michigan "fans") have all of the sudden come back out of hiding. Lucky Leprechauns stay charmed...

LSU - Death Valley at night. A real litmus test to see if SEC power may be shifting back to the East. My money says not yet (and so much for my 'Georgia as National Champs' prediction...)

Texas - it just seems Landry Jones never is able to win a big one. First time since 1989 that I will get to watch this one!

Texas St. - Idaho at Texas State??? My God... I will stay with the Texas theme here

  4. Spamsandwichsan says... Last two weeks of default picks has set me back! Time to engage the spicy Hot brand spam for some flamin picks!

    1. Ohio State over Indiana - let the urban train roll! Good game to see guiton get some more reps.

    2. Northwestern over Minnesota

    3. Notre Dame over Stanford - I miss the good ol' days that were chocked full of Charlie Weiss comments.

    4. LSU over South Carolina - after last week, angry Les Miles is lookin to beat some cocks! Lets hope he can win the football game too!

    5. Texas over Oklahoma - tough game that could go either way. I think Texas has a few more options when it comes to offense.

    6. Texas St. over Idaho

  8. OLD BAG OF MAN IS THREE GAMES BACK. IF I STOP PICKING AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA I MIGHT MAKE UP THAT DEFICIT.

    1) OSU. DO SCOREBOARDS HAVE ROOM FOR TRIPLE DIGITS.

    2) NORTHWESTERN. MINNESOTA = BAD

    3) NOTRE DAME. I ITCH ALL OVER NOW THAT I'VE PICKED THEM.

    4) SOUTH CAROLINA. I HAVE TO, THEY KEEP WINNING WHEN I DON'T PICK THEM.

    5) OKLAHOMA. NOT SURE WHY.

    6) TEXAS ST. I CAN'T PICK A TEAM THAT LOST TO BGSU.

  9. Batman

    1. Ohio State
    2. Northwestern
    3. Notre Dame
    4. South Carolina
    5. Oklahoma
And the oddball game this week is:
    6. Texas St.

    Ohio State rolls Indiana.

Even though NW lost at PSU last week, I think they are solid. I have no respect for Minnesota football yet, my apologies to any Gopher fans who are reading this panelist's comments.

Notre Dame continues to impress. Is it suprising to anyone that Brian Kelly is having success? The only shock to me was that it took so long to come.

I am picking Oklahoma at the neutral site. I am pulling for Mack Brown and Texas. They have a place in my heart and I respect them. Texas might win, but it would not be the smart pick here.

The most difficult game to pick is LSU. Since they lost to Florida last week, they are hungry. But SC is good! They are #3 in the country! But on the road at night takes a special team to find a way to beat a Top 10 team. But is LSU a really good team this year? I'd argue that they are not. So I am going with my main man to pull out the big win: Steve Spurrier!

    Thought of the week:
Don't allow the enemy to discourage you, it's one of his greatest weapons.

    Bet of the week:
Last week I redeemed myself with Michigan improving to 1-1 on the season. This week the lock is Wisconsin.

    Props of the week:
Louis Bromfield. Got to visit this famous 1930s and 40s author's Malabar Farm this past weekend for the first time. I highly recommend the tractor and Big House tour. Pleasant Valley is now on my short list of books to read.

Good luck to the panel this week.

  10. Mel paid the price last week by missing the cutoff....not sure he would have done any better than 2/4though....

    1. Ohio State vs. Indiana
Buckeyes....Should there even be a doubt?

    2. Northwestern vs. Minnesota
Gotta believe the Wildcats have his one....win NW

    3. Stanford vs. Notre Dame
Stanford. Hate to pick based on principle....but ND does that to me.

    4. South Carolina vs. LSU
    LSU...hardest pick of the week

    5. Texas vs. Oklahoma
The river will run red with the blood of the texans....win OK

    6. Idaho vs. Texas St.
    Idaho

  11. Funtik the Hog10/11/2012 9:31 PM

Ohio State def. Indiana: Has Ohio State President Gee anointed the Hoosiers the new “Little Sisters of the Poor,” now that they have a home and home series with TCU for the 2018-19 seasons? Whatever the case may be, I think the Buckeyes will win (and somewhat handily), but watch out for the Hoosiers a bit. They gave the opponents in all three of their losses (Ball State, Mich. State, and Northwestern) pretty close games, and as we’ve seen, the Buckeye defense has been susceptible to high-powered offenses, and, believe it or not, Indiana has the 20th ranked passing offense in the nation. I don’t think there will be much defense played in this game by either team, take the over in this one. Mark this game down as Funtik the Hog’s “Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage” Pick of the Week for Week #7 (4-2 record thus far this season, yes, I know I am taking the easy way out with this pick, but with a 4-2 record so far this season in such picks, for the foreseeable future, I’ll be going with the safe pick. The college funds of children around the country depend on it). Funtik will note, for the record, that he predicted either a defensive or special teams TD in last week’s game for the Buckeyes, and they scored one of each! Mr. Moderator, that should be worth an extra game in the standings, right?

Northwestern def. Minnesota: Don’t ask me why, but I like the Northwestern football team. I think it’s because they’re always the perennial underdog, it’s a really good academic school, the campus location in Chicago (one of Funtik’s favorite cities in the “New World”), they were bad for so long and now they’re one of the (somewhat) more consistent teams in the conference, and they’re usually pretty exciting on offense. You can always count on them for anywhere from 6-9 wins in a given season, and a halfway decent bowl game. Isn’t this one of those “trophy” games in the Big Ten? Doesn’t the winner receive a bonsai tree or carved wood boot or something?

Notre Dame def. Stanford: As much as I hate to say it (and on the subject of hating, did anyone else see those ND helmets last week?!?! Dear Lord, how did those monstrosities get approval from the athletics department?!?!), I am starting to buy into the Notre Dame hype a bit. That kid Te’o is a beast and a half…he’d look really good in an Ohio State uniform. However, if this game was at Stanford, I might think differently.

South Carolina def. LSU: Toughest game of the week to pick, by a wide margin. Both teams have qualities that really make me want to pick them – LSU, playing a home game at night, very angry and out for revenge after an embarrassing loss, The Mad Hatter chewing his grass on the sidelines and reaching into his bag of tricks to pull something out, and the potential horror of losing two straight conference games; SC – tons of momentum after the Georgia win, playmakers on both sides of the ball, and a ferocious defense playing against an offense that has scored a grand total of 16 points in two conference games (I think the final margin of victory in the Auburn game was via safety). Going with the team on a big time roll, and The Mad Hatter is left to chew on something a lot worse than grass.

Texas def. Oklahoma: Another pretty difficult game to pick. Texas’ defense got kicked around by Geno Smith & Co. last week, but Landry Jones is no Geno Smith (who would have said that at the beginning of last season, eh?). If you look at the offensive stats, it’s kind of scary how evenly these two teams are matched. In the end, Jones makes one too many mistakes in the 4th quarter, and Texas squeezes out a 3 point win to take back the “Golden Hat” Trophy (not as good as Paul Bunyan’s Ax in terms of trophies, but not bad).

Texas State def. Idaho: If a football game is (allegedly) played and no one (actually) sees it, does it count in the Guest Panel standings?
