Guest Panel-Week 7 Games and Standings

Here are the games for the Guest Panel to consider this week. Below are the standings as well. Cliff Diving Raoul has been joined at first place by Corso who was the only panelist to have a 6-0 record. The Big Ten games proved to be difficult for the panel as many did not predict the Michigan State and Indiana victories. Although this is a bye-week for Ohio State, the Guest Panel will still predict winners. Check back on Friday for the picks and commentary.

Standings:
1. Cliff Diving Raoul (27-9) (4-2 last week)
1. Corso (27-9) (6-0 last week)
3. Funtik the Hog (26-10) (4-2 last week)
3. SPAM (26-10) (5-1 last week)
5. Philly Cheese (25-11) (4-2 last week)

10. ChadsOSU (20-16) (5-1 last week)
11. W.T. (19-17) (2-4 last week)

4-2...meh

Missouri loses to Georgia - MKH will never pick against the dogs again

Florida loses to LSU - Tigers just have more

Oregon beats Washington - closer than the experts think however...a great rivalry

Oklahoma loses to Texas - Mack Brown playing for his job in an even greater rivalry

Oregon St. beats Washington St. - the 'other-other' OSU smacks the apple-pickers

South Florida beats Connecticut - September 28, 2007 - USF beats #5 WVU - and then promptly dropped off the radar. Jim Levitt beats one of his players on the sidelines leading eventually to his firing. Skip Holtz takes the reigns for a few seasons until the illustrious Willie Taggart steps in.

In the 1970's, while coaching the pitiful Indiana Hoosiers, Lee Corso's Hoosiers won the coin toss, took the opening kick vs. Woody Hayes' powerhouse Ohio State Buckeyes, and drove for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. Legend has it that Corso had his picture taken with the Ohio Stadium scoreboard--reading 'Indiana 3, Ohio State 0'--over his shoulder, visible in the background.

I just had my picture taken with this weeks standings...

Georgia - My 2012 pick to win the NC is banged up, but still good enough to beat a Big 12 team that will be coming in too high from a win vs. Vandy, especially between the hedges.

LSU - Gotta score to win, Gators...

Oregon - 66, 59, 59, 55, 57. Oregon point total is gradually diminishing each game. Guessing the Ducks only hang 49 on U-Dub this weekend.

Oklahoma - Every year this is a great matchup, I can never watch it; every time it is a dog game, my weekend is free. It's a slow weekend upcoming...

Oregon St. - Wave that Wazzu flag on College Game Day, but the Coogs who are having a nice season take two steps forward...and one step back. Gotta pick one OSU win this weekend, and betting the Beavers don't stumble on their second trip to Eastern Washington this season. And somewhere there has to be a good joke in there involving Cougars and Beavers...

South Florida - Want to go with a Uconn team in disarray (is Jim Calhoun the interim there??), but gonna go with the superior Southern speed and athleticism we always hear so much about.

OLD BAG OF MAN DOES NOT SHUT DOWN OR TAKE BYE WEEKS.

1) GEORGIA. KIND OF FORGOT MIZZOU WAS IN THE SEC. I'M SURE THEY WISH THEY DIDN'T MAKE THAT CHANGE.

2) LSU. ANOTHER CHANCE TO SEE LES MILES EAT BOOGERS ON THE SIDELINE ON CBS.

3) OREGON. THEIR FIRST TOUGH GAME OF THE SEASON. IT WILL BE CLOSER THAN THE GAMES THEY'VE PLAYED SO FAR.

4) OKLAHOMA. THIS MAY SEAL MACK BROWN'S FATE.

5) OREGON ST. I HAVE TO PICK ONE OSU EACH WEEK.

6) S. FLORIDA.

Wow, lots of big games this upcoming weekend, and nary a one involving a Big Ten team. I guess Mr. Moderator felt bad loading up on Big Ten games last weekend and wanted to share the love with some other conferences this week.

Georgia def. Missouri: Doesn't it seem that Missouri is ALWAYS one of those teams that's always right on the cusp of becoming an elite team, but never does? Welcome to the SEC, Tigers of Mizzou.

LSU def. Florida: A (small) part of me thinks that this will be just another game in the wild, crazy, wacky SEC this year, and Florida beats LSU to add to the confusion. Hopefully the Mad Hatter learned from his mistakes in the Georgia game and he eats his proper allocation of grass and the Tigers get the hard-fought victory in Baton Rouge.

Oregon def. Washington: In real life, a duck would never defeat a husky; just some food for thought...and, lest we forget, mark this game down as Funtik the Hog's Clairvoyant Snout Bucket Rummage Pick of the Week #7 (5-1 records in such games thus far...yikes, going back to last week's pick, either the FSU Seminoles are really good, or the Maryland Terrapins were very overrated).

Oklahoma def. Texas: On the subject of yikes, take a look at the article on si.com about the downfall of the University of Texas Athletics Department.

Oregon St. def. Washington St.: That is one scary lookin' orange beaver mascot logo that Oregon State has over there.

South Florida def. Connecticut: Mr. Moderator, is a game involving two teams from a BCS conference (at least for this season) truly be considered an "oddball" game by the scientific definition? This Guest Panelist begs to differ...

1. Georgia - I'm finally coming around on Georgia. They'll probably make me regret that.
2. LSU - The Tigers are very tough to beat in Death Valley, and Florida minus a QB is not the team to do it.
3. Washington - Oregon has scored at least 55 points in every game thus far; Washington has only allowed 71 points through 5 games. Defense wins the day.
4. Oklahoma - I'm still impressed that they play this game at the Cotton Bowl every year. As a fan of college football, I think that's pretty cool. If I were a student or alumnus of one of the schools, I would probably think it sucks.
5. Washington State - It's a Pac12 North two-fer, as the two Oregon schools visit the two Washington schools!
6. Connecticut - UConn should have beaten Michigan, but they'll finally get a win this week over the Bulls. Incidentally, they played the Buffalo Bulls last week.

Finally climbed my way out of last place! I'm sure I can find a way to screw it up and end up right back there.
