Scouting the Gators

 

Quaterback

Florida uses two quarterbacks. Senior Chris Leak is the starter and gets the majority of the minutes. Leak is in his fourth year as a starter, having started 46 games. For the season he is 62% for 2729 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Freshman Tim Tebow typically goes in for 3rd of 4th downs with five yards or less. Tebow is 65% for 357 yards, four touchdowns and one intereception. Both players will run, Leak has rushed for 3 touchdowns and 224 yards (net 23 yards) and Tebow has 429 yards (net 430) and 7 touchdowns.

 

Running Backs

Senior running back DeShawn Wynn leads the Gators with 648 yards. Wynn played for most of the season with a sprained knee, in fact he missed the LSU game. He had some shoulder pain before the SEC championship game and was limited to 1 carry. So far this season he has 630 yards and five touchdowns. Second in rushing yards is QB Tim Tebow.

 

Receivers

The leading receivers are Dallas Baker and Andre Caldwell. Baker has 897 yards and 9 touchdowns. Caldwell has 571 yards and five touchdowns. There are three other receivers with over 300 yards this season. Baker was a critical player in the Tennessee game, providing two of the three touchdowns.

 

Kickers

Chris Hetland has struggled this season hitting 4 of 13 on field goals. He is 0 for 3 on everything over 40 yards. He has a long of 33 yards this season. Senior punter Eric Wilbur has punted 49 times for an average of 42.2. yards.

 

O-Line

Lining up on the line are Senior Steve Rissler at center, sophomore Jim Tartt and junior Drew Miller at guard, and junior Carlton Medder and junior Phil Trautwein at tackle.

 

Linebackers

At strong is senior Brian Crum, at middle is junior Brandon Siler and at weak is senior Earl Everett. Everett leads the team with 78 tackles.

 

Defensive Backs

At the corners are senior Reggie Lewis and junior Ryan Smith. At strong safety is junior Tony Joiner and free safety is junior Reggie Nelson. Smith leads the team with 8 interceptions.

 

D-Line

At the ends are senior Steven Harris and junior Jarvis Moss. At tackles are senior Ray McDonald and senior senior Joe Cohen. Moss has 9 tackles for loss.
