This Season
Nebraska is 4-1 with wins over Chattanooga (40-7), Fresno State (42-29), Washington (51-38), and Wyoming (38-14.) The Cornhuskers lost last week to Wisconsin 48-17. Nebraska shot itself in the foot as three turnovers led to 21 Wisconsin points, and a season high nine Nebraska penalties resulted in 80 yards. The rushing offense has averaged 247 yards/game but was limited to 159 rushing yards against Wisconsin. In the Wisconsin game QB Martinez rushed for 60 yards, ran for one touchdown, completed 11 passes for 176 yards, and threw three interceptions.
Offense
At QB is Taylor Martinez, who comes back after starting last season. He is 50% for 823 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions. Martinez will also run and has 83 rushes for 482 yards and eight touchdowns. Running Back Rex Burkhead has run for 516 yards and eight touchdowns. Burkhead rushed for a career high 170 yards against Wyoming. Running back Amer Abdullah has been more productive on special teams as compared to running back. He is the kick/punt returner, and he already has a TD return. Catching the ball are Kenny Bell, Brandon Kinnie, Quincy Enunwa, and Jamal Turner. Turner has 13 receptions for 223 yards. WR Jamal Turner may get some time running the ball.
Defense
On the D-Line are Jason Ankrah, Jared Crick, Baker Steinkuhler, and Cameron Meredith. At linebacker are Sean Fisher, Will Compton, and Lavonte David. David is a senior and second year starter with 45 tackles this season and five tackles for loss, including two sacks against Wisconsin. Leading the secondary are Daimion Stafford and Alfonzo Dennard. Stafford is a junior college transfer who has started four of the five games this season, with total of 38 tackles and four tackles for loss. Dennard is in his third season as a starter and he has missed some playing time this season with a leg injury.
