Some Texas fans are saying this is one of the most anticipated home games ever in Austin. This is only the second time they have had a #1 ranked team play at DKR Stadium, the other was SMU back in the 50's. Oh, and the game with their rival Oklahoma, the "SBC Red River Rivalry" (sellouts), is always played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. There have been some interesting articles printed in Texas in anticipation of this game.
In this article, the University of Texas urges fans to treat the visiting OSU fans with respect. The author points out the fact that some OSU fans did not treat the Longhorn fans well last year in Columbus, but offered assurance of the fact that those unruly OSU fans couldn't afford to make the trip and they will be back home in the trailer watching Jerry Springer. That statement is probably not far from the truth. Although I thought it was a low blow reminding us that the Ohio State Fair Butter Cow is made of Texas butter.
This article, written by the same person, shows anger towards the invading OSU fans. He tells bar owners to lock their doors before OSU arrives. Apparently the TBDBITL has rented out the Erwin Center, a sacred place for Texas fans, for a concert on Saturday. Oh and Varsity Club (Columbus) has rented out Stubb's, a famous barbecue joint, so that OSU fans can enjoy their own barbecue party in Austin. He also is concerned over the fact that almost 20,000 fans from the Yankee state of Ohio will probably get tickets to the game, meaning a lot of Longhorn fans sold their tickets. He stated that Ohio people don't understand BBQ. An OSU fan wrote him an email saying, "If it doesn't involve a pig, it isn't barbecue" and he responded back, "Hey, buddy, if it doesn't involve a pig, it isn't the Miss Ohio pageant." Ouch.
