Roster Notes-Offense

QB
Senior Joe Bauserman has watched the offense as a back-up to Pryor. As you likely know Bauserman was pitching prospect in the Pirates system. He is a traditional pocket QB, but he can move if needed. Braxton Miller came to campus early in January this year, after being a successful Ohio high school QB who could run and pass. Miller doesn't have the height and speed of Pryor, but it has been said that his passing is a bit more polished as compared to Pryor's first year. Both QBs are listed as the starter and both will see playing time, with Bauserman starting the game. I expect OSU to settle on a QB after the first three games, with the other QB still seeing some playing time.

RB
Boom Herron will miss the first five games. Splitting snaps will be Jaamal Berry, Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, and Rod Smith. Assistant coach Dick Tressel said he will likely use three running backs in his rotation. Berry has been dealing with a hamstring injury, so he may not play in the first game. During the first five games, Hall, Hyde, and Smith will likely get most of the minutes, and if Berry gets healthy he should get significant minutes. One of my favorite players, Zach Boren will be back at fullback, a position he has started since his freshman year. UPDATE: Jordan Hall is suspended for the first game, so Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith will split the running possession.

Receivers
Posey will sit out the first five games, but he likely be the top target when he does start. The only returning wide receiver with experience is Corey "Philly" Brown with eight career catches. Red-shirt freshman Verlon Reed, a first year starter, was a high school QB converted to receiver. As a backup you will see Chris Fields, who will also play as a slot receiver. Also playing backup will be true freshman Evan Spencer, son of former OSU player and assistant coach Tim Spencer. I hoped last year would be a bigger year in receptions for tight end Jake Stonebrunner, and maybe this will finally be the year for him and Reid Fragel, especially with an inexperienced QB looking for easy passes this season. The running backs will have some balls thrown their direction, like the talented Jordan Hall and also FB Zach Boren.

O-Line
This unit is led by Mike Brewster at center, who has been a starter since he arrived on campus. Brewster returns after winning All-American honors last year, and is considered a frontrunner for many national awards. Sitting on the sideline for the first five games is Mike Adams. J.B. Shugarts will be back at the tackle position after struggling with foot problems last year. At the other tackle position is Andrew Norwell. At the two guard positions are Jack Mewhort and Marcus Hall. There may be some depth concerns, especially while Adams sits out, as the backups are mostly freshman.
