New Faces on Special Teams

Coach Tressel is known for his focus on special teams, stating that the punt is the most important play of the game. He has also had very good placekickers capable of hitting FGs in the low to mid- 50's. Last year the kick coverage teams were not very good, and return game was not consistently good. Also, OSU had to deal with an injury at K. There are many new faces this year on special teams.

Below are the starters and some notes:
1. K-Devin Barclay-#23-Senior-the former MLS player stepped in late last year and hit some big FGs including the one to win the Iowa game. He will kick most FGs and true freshman Drew Basil (#24) will come in for the longer ones in the mid 50's.
2. KO-Drew Basil-#24-Freshman-challenged Devin Barclay in preseason and has claimed the job of doing kickoffs.
3. P-Ben Buchanan-#17-Sophomore-replaces Jon Thoma.
4. KO Returns-Jamaal Berry and Jordan Hall-a bit of a change for Tressel not having the starting RBs return kick-offs. If these guys have drops, look for Saine or Herron to step in.
5. Punt Returns-Jordan Hall and Cory "Philly" Brown-another change for Tressel not having the starting receivers. If these guys have trouble, look for Posey and Sanzenbacher to step in.
6. LS-Jake McQuaide-#96-Senior-will handle the long snaps.
7. H-Joe Bauserman-#14-Junior-will hold for PATs and is available for fake kicks.
